5 players to watch vs. Lions
Keep an eye on these five players as the Giants take on the Lions Friday night

With Saquon Barkley sidelined with a hamstring injury, Gallman saw increased reps this week in the joint practices leading up to Friday's game vs. Detroit. The second-year pro is looking to build off a preseason opener in which he led the team in receptions. This week, coach Pat Shurmur said he is "gaining an appreciation for what [Gallman] is as a runner, a pass catcher, and a blocker."](https://static.clubs.nfl.com/image/private/t_new_photo_album/t_lazy/f_auto/giants/m0fqyoonchpzuftkavtb.jpg)

OLB LORENZO CARTER
The rookie third-round draft choice has turned heads for many people this summer, including newcomer and 10-year vet Connor Barwin. "The sky is the limit for him right now," said Barwin, who has 55.5 career sacks. "He's still young, he's got a lot to learn. I try to remember what it was like my rookie year. A lot of times, he's playing everything cool like he's got it. But I know what it was like being there before. He's got a lot to learn, a lot to grow. He's got all the tools. Like I've said before to you guys, he can run, he's fast, he's got natural kind of instincts when he gets to the top. So I'm excited for him." Carter had three tackles (one solo) in the preseason opener.

QB DAVIS WEBB
Maybe a little too amped up to play in his first game in nearly a year, Webb completed nine of 22 passes for 70 yards last week against the Browns as the first quarterback off the bench behind Eli Manning. Coming off the performance, coach Pat Shurmur threw him right back out there and gave him some first-team reps to see what he has in the backup. Manning was asked this week if he said anything to Webb about channeling his nerves and playing more relaxed. "No, he didn't need me to say anything – he's ready," Manning said. "We always talk about the game plan, and this and that. I don't need to say anything specific. He'll be fine."

S CURTIS RILEY
Riley was sidelined with a hamstring injury for the preseason opener vs. Cleveland last Friday, but he returned to take first-team reps at free safety when the Giants opened joint practices with the Lions. Riley is on track to start Friday night in what has been a rotating competition for the job. "I just got to keep being consistent, doing everything I'm doing right now," Riley said. "Got to make sure I'm making all the right calls. I can't go out there having technical errors and stuff like that. Just got to be consistent, that's the main thing."

DT B.J. HILL
Taken three picks after Lorenzo Carter in the third round, Hill has spent the summer learning from and playing alongside Damon Harrison. The 2016 All-Pro thinks "B.J. will be a really, really good player in this league." The rookie will look to take another step in his development against the Lions.
