5 players to watch in Giants vs. Jets
Keep an eye on these five players during Thursday's preseason opener against the New York Jets.

QB DANIEL JONES: Pat Shurmur didn't disclose playing time for Thursday night, but he did confirm at least one player will be out there against the Jets: Daniel Jones. The sixth overall draft pick will take the field for the first time in front of his new home crowd and go against a live NFL defense.

CB COREY BALLENTINE: Ballentine, the third of three cornerbacks drafted this past April after DeAndre Baker and Julian Love, has been one of the pleasant surprises of training camp. He already has three interceptions in practice and will get a look at kick returner after the Giants lost their primary man in Corey Coleman (torn ACL).

WR BENNIE FOWLER: Fowler has been bumped up amid the absences at wide receiver, which includes Sterling Shepard (broken thumb), Darius Slayton (hamstring) and Coleman. Fowler typically plays on the outside, but he brings some flexibility to the offense with his ability to play all the positions.

DL DEXTER LAWRENCE: Thursday night will be the first NFL game for Lawrence as a player – or a fan. Despite living in Panthers territory, he grew up watching the Giants but never made it to a game. The 6-foot-4, 342-pound rookie is out to prove he can generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

OLB LORENZO CARTER: Speaking of rushing the passer, the Giants made it one of their top priorities coming off last season. They signed Markus Golden, who had 12.5 sacks for defensive coordinator James Bettcher when they were in Arizona, and drafted Oshane Ximines, who was in the FBS top 10 last season in sacks, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles. They also have Lorenzo Carter with a year of experience under his belt.
