5 players to watch at Giants minicamp
Keep an eye on these five players as the Giants kick off 2019 minicamp

WR DARIUS SLAYTON: The rookie fifth-round draft pick has flashed his sub-4.4 speed in spring practices and will look to do the same in minicamp. Behind free-agent addition Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard, who signed an extension this offseason, the competition for the third wide receiver spot will be one to watch. Also keep an eye on the likes of Cody Latimer, Corey Coleman and Bennie Fowler.

CB SAM BEAL: After sitting all of his rookie year because of a shoulder injury, the supplemental draft pick is eying a major role in James Bettcher's new-look secondary. He has seen a share of first-team reps opposite veteran Janoris Jenkins this spring, as has rookie DeAndre Baker, one of the Giants' three first-round picks this past April. Meanwhile, Grant Haley and rookie Julian Love have been competing for the nickel corner job.

S JABRILL PEPPERS: Teaming up with veteran Antoine Bethea as part of a new safety tandem, Peppers already has a pair of interceptions during organized team activities (OTAs). The New Jersey prep star has come home after spending his first two seasons with the Browns, who drafted him 25th overall in 2017.

QB DANIEL JONES: The sixth overall pick is taking on more and more of the playbook with each practice as he learns behind two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. "We gave him a small group of plays the first day of rookie minicamp, then we gave him another group and another group," coach Pat Shurmur said. "We kept piling on. I think he is doing a good job sorting through it and learning the details of the position. You never totally know where a player is when you get him. He was ready to compete when he got here. It was just a matter of him learning how we do it here."

C JON HALAPIO: The team showed its belief in Halapio by re-signing him this offseason. Halapio suffered a season-ending leg injury in Week 2 of last season after earning the starting job, which he is looking to retain this summer. Meanwhile, the team also brought back Spencer Pulley, who played a key role in the Giants' second-half surge. The two will be competing for first-team reps at minicamp and beyond.
