EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Notes and statistics from the Giants' 27-22 loss to the Washington Commanders in MetLife Stadium:
*The Giants posted their highest point total this season in MetLife, where they had totaled 31 points in their first four home games. Quarterback Daniel Jones had a hand - or foot - in all three of their touchdowns, throwing scoring passes to tight ends Chris Manhertz (two yards) and rookie Theo Johnson (35), and adding a 2-yard run.
*Jones completed 20 of 26 passes, a 76.9 percentage that was his highest of the season and the sixth highest of his career. His previous high this season was 72.5% vs. Dallas on Sept. 26. Jones passed for 174 yards and for the fifth time this season did not throw an interception. He did, however, lose a fumble in the first quarter on a play that was originally called an incomplete pass but was overturned after a challenge by Washington coach Dan Quinn.
*Jones' passer rating of 119.7 was easily his highest of the season (topping his 109.6 at Seattle on Oct. 6) and was his highest since he posted a 125.2 vs. Indianapolis on Jan. 1, 2023.
*Jones had an unusual stat line in the first half. With the Giants leaning heavily on their rushing attack (21 carries for 142 yards), Jones threw just six passes, completing four for zero yards. But one of his completions was the touchdown to Manhertz. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jones was the first quarterback with a touchdown and zero or fewer yards passing in the first half of a game was Carolina's Cam Newton on Nov. 14, 2021 (one touchdown, zero yards). But Newton threw just three passes in that game. NFL Research said Jones is the first quarterback since 1991 to have zero or fewer pass yards and 1+ passing touchdown with at least five attempts.
*Jones' touchdown passes were his first in MetLife since Jan. 1, 2023, when he threw for scores to Richie James and Isaiah Hodgins. Because of injuries, Jones played in only two home games last season.
*Jones also had seven rushing attempts for 54 yards, his second highest total of the season (56 vs. Cincinnati on Oct. 13).
*Jones gained 24 yards on a first quarter sprint around right end, his longest run of the season by 11 yards and his longest since a 25-yard run against the Colts on New Year's Day 2023. His previous long run this season was a 13-yarder vs. the Bengals.
*The Giants rushed for 164 yards, their second highest total of the season (175 at Seattle). Rookie Tyrone Tracy (66 yards on 16 carries) again led the team.
*Rookie Malik Nabers caught a game-high nine passes, for 59 yards, all in the second half. No other Giants player had more than three receptions.
*Nabers increased his season total to 55 catches. He is the second player in NFL history with at least 50 receptions in his first seven career games; The Rams Puka Nacua had 58 in seven games last year.
The New York Giants welcome the Washington Commanders to MetLife Stadium for their Week 9 matchup.
*Manhertz scored a touchdown on his first and still only reception of the season. It was the Giants' initial first-half touchdown in MetLife Stadium this season and their first since the victory in Seattle on Oct. 6
*Manhertz also scored the first touchdown by a Giants tight end this season, the third of his career, and first since Sept. 12, 2021, when he played for Jacksonville at Houston.
*Johnson scored his first career touchdown with 1:48 remaining in the fourth quarter. He and Manhertz were the first Giants tight ends to catch a touchdown pass since Lawrence Cager on Nov. 12, 2023, at Dallas.
*This was the first game in which two Giants tight end caught touchdown passes since Nov 1, 2021, at Kansas City, where the players were Kyle Rudolph and Evan Engram.
*Manhertz's touchdown was set up by Darius Slayton's 11-yard run. The rushing attempt was the fourth of Slayton's career and first since Nov. 28, 2021 – when he lost 13 yards vs. Philadelphia. His first two rushing attempts were in 2020, both against Washington.
*The Giants, who entered the game with an NFL-high 35 sacks, did not record a sack of Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels. It was their first game without a sack since Nov. 12, 2023, at Dallas.
*For the second time in three games, the Giants did not force a turnover. They last had neither a sack nor a takeaway on Nov. 5, 2023, in Las Vegas.
*The Giants have not intercepted a pass in eight consecutive games, extending a franchise record.
*Linebacker Micah McFadden led the Giants with 11 tackles (six solo). Bobby Okereke added nine stops (five solo).
*The Giants lost their fourth consecutive game and fell to 2-7. They play next week in Munich, Germany, against the Carolina Panthers.
*The Giants are 0-4 against the NFC East and lost all their division home games for the first time since 2020. They have games remaining in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day and Philadelphia in their season finale.
*The Giants attempted 2-point conversions after each of their fourth-quarter touchdowns. They did not convert either and are 0-for-6 this season on 2-point tries.
*Washington swept the season series for the first time since 2021.
*The Commanders played without leading rusher Brian Robinson, Jr., who was inactive with a hamstring injury. He leads Washington with 461 yards rushing and six touchdowns. In the teams' first meeting on Sept. 15, Robinson, Jr. carried 17 times for 133 yards. On Sunday, Chris Rodriguez, Jr., who was elevated off the practice squad, paced Washington with 52 yards on 11 carries.
*The Giants had allowed a league-high 5.4 yards-per-carry, but Washington averaged 3.9 yards on 38 attempts.
*Quarterback Jayden Daniels continued his sensational rookie season with 15 completions on 22 attempts for 209 yards, two touchdowns to Terry McLaurin, and no interceptions. He also ran for 34 yards on eight carries.
*Daniels is the first rookie starting quarterback to beat the Giants twice since the NFL began tracking quarterback starts in 1950.
*Tress Way punted twice for the Commanders. In the teams' first meeting on Sept. 15, Washington never punted.
*Kicker Jude McAtamney kicked a 31-yard field goal and an extra point in his NFL debut. He was elevated from the practice squad after Greg Joseph was placed on injured reserve with an abdominal injury.
*The Giants' inactive players were wide receiver Bruce Ford-Wheaton (Achilles), punter Jamie Gillan (hamstring), guard Jake Kubas, defensive lineman Jordon Riley, cornerback Tre Hawkins, and Tommy DeVito (third quarterback).
