Notes & Stats: Giants vs. Buccaneers Recap

JAMESON

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Notes and statistics from the Giants' 30-7 loss Sunday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in MetLife Stadium:

*In his first start of the season, quarterback Tommy DeVito posted decent numbers but was unable to lead the offense into the end zone until the fourth quarter. He completed 21 of 31 passes (67.7%) for 189 yards with neither a touchdown pass nor an interception. DeVito was sacked four times and hit on nine dropbacks. He also rushed for 32 yards on seven carries, including a team-long 17-yard scramble immediately preceding Devin Singletary's one-yard touchdown run.

*This was DeVito's third career start in MetLife, and first loss.

*Malik Nabers, who was not targeted on any of DeVito's five first-half passes, finished with team-high totals of six receptions for 66 yards. Nabers increased his rookie season total to 67 catches, the most by a player in his first nine career games. The former record of 64 was set last year by the Rams' Puka Nacua. Saquon Barkley had been second with 62.

*Wan'Dale Robinson caught five passes for 47 yards and has 5+ catches in eight of the last nine games. He has 61 receptions this season, surpassing his previous career high of 60, set in 2023.

*Darius Slayton did not catch a pass, ending his team-long streak with at least one reception at 26 games. His previous game without a catch was the 2022 season finale in Philadelphia, where he played only three snaps.

*Tyrone Tracy led the Giants with 42 rushing yards on nine carries, but lost a fumble in a second straight game, this time at the Tampa Bay 5-yard line.

*Tracy ran for 16 yards on the Giants' opening offensive play. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the Giants' longest run on the first play from scrimmage since Oct. 30, 2005, when Tiki Barber rushed for 57 yards against Washington. Barber was in the house Sunday as a game analyst for CBS.

*Each team had one turnover, making this the 11th consecutive game the Giants did not have a positive turnover differential, extending the longest single-season streak in franchise history. The Giants are 2-4 in games with a zero turnover differential and 0-5 when it's minus-1 or minus-2.

*The Giants did not intercept a pass for the 10th consecutive game, tying the NFL record held by the 1976-77 San Francisco 49ers and the 2017 Oakland Raiders (with whom the Giants share the single-season mark).

*The Giants did not record a sack for the second time in three games. After totaling an NFL-high 35 sacks through the first eight games, they have only one sack in their last three.

*The Buccaneers rushed for four touchdowns by four different players: Sean Tucker, Bucky Irving, Baker Mayfield, and Rachaad White. They are the first Giants opponent to score four touchdowns on the ground since Philadelphia on Dec. 11, 2022.

*No Giants opponent had four different players rush for touchdowns in a game since Oct. 10, 1948 – also the Eagles. The players were Steve Van Buren, Tommy Thompson, Ben Kish and Jim Parmer.

*The Giants' 76 rushing yards tied their third lowest total of the season (also vs. Philadelphia on Oct. 20). They ran for 24 yards vs. Dallas on Sept. 26 and 74 in the season opener against Minnesota.

*The Buccaneers gained 450 yards, threw for 294 yards and had 24 first downs. Those were all the highest totals by a Giants opponent since Christmas Day 2023, when Philadelphia finished with 465 yards, 295 pass yards and 28 first downs.

*The Giants trailed at halftime, 23-0, their largest deficit after two quarters since they faced a 28-0 deficit in Dallas on Nov. 12, 2023. It was the third time this season the Giants were scoreless at halftime (also vs. Cincinnati and Carolina) and the seventh game in which they did not score a first-half touchdown.

*Tampa Bay scored the first 30 points of the game, the first Giants opponent to do so since Dallas on Sept. 10, 2023.

*The Giants were shut out in the first three quarters for the first time since Nov. 5, 2023, at Las Vegas.

*The Bucs became the third Giants opponent this season to score a first-possession touchdown when Tucker crossed the goal line on a one-yard run. Tampa Bay consumed the first 8:23 of the game to travel 70 yards in 14 plays. Cleveland and Cincinnati were the other 2024 Giants foes to reach the end zone.

*Rookie Darius Muasau – who has the team's only interception this season – made his second start of the season and first since opening day. The Giants used a new defensive alignment in which they frequently used three inside linebackers – Bobby Okereke, Micah McFadden, and Muasau.

*For the second straight game, rookie safety Tyler Nubin led the Giants with a career-high 12 tackles (five solo).

*The Giants lost left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor on their first third down with a quad injury. DeVito was sacked for a 7-yard loss on the play. Eluemunor missed the remainder of the game. He had played all 689 offensive snaps in the season's first 10 games, starting the first nine at right tackle and the last two, including Sunday, on the left side.

*Outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari left the game with the toe injury in the first half and did not return.

*The Giants are 14-21 (.400) in games following a regular-season bye.
