Mel Kiper, Daniel Jeremiah agree in latest mock drafts

The focus at the moment is still on free agency, but that isn't stopping some of the biggest names in the draft industry from releasing updated mock drafts.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah both released their latest predictions for the first round of the draft Tuesday morning. We're a little over one month from the start of the draft and both analysts have similar projections at the top of the first round.

Kiper and Jeremiah have Miami quarterback Cam Ward going to the Titans first overall, followed by Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter to the Browns with the second pick. The two analysts then agree on the Giants' selection with the third overall pick - Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

"In Sanders, New York would get a super accurate passer (74.0% completion rate in 2024) who is tough as nails," wrote Kiper. "Despite taking the most sacks in the FBS over the past two seasons (94), he also tied for second in touchdown passes during that time frame (64)."

Sanders began his collegiate career at Jackson State, where he played for two years and was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year in 2021 and the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022.

The talented young quarterback then transferred to Colorado, where he put together back-to-back strong campaigns for the Buffaloes.

Sanders completed 69.3 percent of his passes for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and just three interceptions across 11 games as a junior in 2023. This past season, he completed an impressive 74.0 percent of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

His 2024 performance led to him being named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in addition to being selected as the recipient of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation's top upperclassman quarterback.

"I'll be curious to see what the Giants do here," Jeremiah wrote. "If Abdul Carter is available at No. 3, that might change things, but in this scenario, they secure their answer at quarterback."

Here are the first four picks in both analysts' latest mock drafts:

  1. Tennessee Titans - Cam Ward, QB, Miami
  2. Cleveland Browns - Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State
  3. New York Giants - Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
  4. New England Patriots - Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado
