Malik Nabers gives his rookie season a surprise grade

Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers put together one of the best rookie wide receiver seasons in NFL history. And yet, he is far from satisfied.

While making an appearance on Radio Row at the Super Bowl down in New Orleans, Nabers was asked what grade he would give himself for his rookie year. His response may surprise you.

Despite setting a new rookie wide receiver reception record, the 21-year-old gave his first NFL season a "C" grade.

"I missed two games, I didn't get 10 touchdowns," Nabers told NBC Sports' Mike Florio and Chris Simms. "Me and BT (Brian Thomas), it was really a competition between, you know all of the LSU guys that got drafted. Jayden (Daniels), BT, so you know, we was always trying to be... We wanted to be here, especially for the Rookie of the Year. But stats could have been way better. I mean, I could have done a lot of things way better in the season. So yeah, I grade it as a C."

Nabers added, "I know my potential."

Despite missing two games and catching passes from four different quarterbacks, Nabers still put together a rookie campaign for the history book.

Nabers set a new franchise record with 109 receptions, beating Steve Smith's previous record of 107 catches set in 2009, which he took for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. Not only did Nabers set a new Giants record for receptions in a season, but he also topped Puka Nacua's previous rookie wide receiver reception record of 105 set in 2023.

Nabers finished with five or more receptions in 14 of the 15 games he played in, which is the most outings with five or more catches by a rookie in NFL history. The previous high was 12 such games, a mark shared by Terry Glenn and Anquan Boldin.

When asked how his rookie season might fuel him this offseason, Nabers responded "Continue to push myself to be where I want to be. You know, make sure my body is as healthy as can be leading up to next year. Making sure I know exactly where I want to be next year and have that in my mind to be pushing me every day."

Nabers finished fifth in the NFL with his 109 receptions (and third among wide receivers), while his 1,204 receiving yards finished seventh. Pro Football Focus recently ranked him as the third-best rookie overall from the 2024 season.

Nabers' campaign will go down as one of the best by a rookie wide receiver in NFL history.
