IHMIR-SMITH-MARSETTE-RIDER

The New York Giants re-signed wide receiver/return specialist Ihmir Smith-Marsette, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent when the new league began at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12.

Signed by the Giants one game after the 2024 season began, Smith-Marsette became the primary returner and made a splash with a 100-yard touchdown on the second-half kickoff of a Week 17 victory over the Colts.

It was Smith-Marsette's second career return touchdown and first via kickoff in his four-year career. He scored on a 79-yard punt return for Carolina at Chicago on Nov. 9, 2023.

Smith-Marsette scored the seventh kickoff return touchdown in the NFL in 2024, the first season with the new "dynamic" kickoff rules. He was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the performance.

Smith-Marsette scored the Giants' first kickoff return touchdown since Oct. 25, 2015, when Dwayne Harris also scored on a 100-yard runback, against Dallas.

In their 100-season history, the Giants have returned 24 kickoffs for touchdowns, including 22 in the regular season and two by Ron Dixon in the 2000 postseason.

Smith-Marsette also accounted for all but one of the Giants' 30 punt returns in 2024, which he returned for 228 yards (7.9-yard average) with a long of 25 yards.

Smith-Marsette grew up in Newark, N.J., and attended Weequahic High School, located just 15 miles from MetLife Stadium.
