The New York Giants have signed 10-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson.
Shortly after making it official, Wilson met with the local media for the first time as a Giant. Here is everything you need to know.
📰 Wilson "loved the whole process" and "environment" with general manager Joe Schoen, coach Brian Daboll and the staff in free agency.
📰 Wilson "obviously" loves playing in MetLife Stadium. He has "a lot of good memories here," including a Super Bowl title and a 4-0 record as a starter in the building. "Some of my most fond memories of this game that I've poured my heart and soul into every day have happened right here in this stadium right across the street at MetLife Stadium. I'm excited to create some more memories with some amazing teammates and really for this fanbase."
📰 What really excited Wilson, though, was the players he has met so far and others he has admired playing against, like Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns.
📰 Wide receiver Malik Nabers is a "freak of an athlete. … This guy, when he touches the ball, he may score every single time. He's been exciting." They have talked to each other along the way. "He's fired up, and we've had a lot of good conversations so far."
📰 Wilson is a "film rat." He sees a team with speed and they need to use that. "The good part is they're young." Wilson also mentioned tight end Theo Johnson and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who has been "untapped in terms of what he knows he's capable of."
📰 Wilson likes Darius Slayton's "ability to get down the field and make plays."
📰 Wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson is "like a running back" and is "hard to tackle." He's played with guys who have the same "escapability."
📰 Wilson expects to be the starter and "come in here and be ready to rock and roll every day."
📰 He thinks the team is looking for somebody to lead them in the process from the offseason through the season.
📰 Daboll is "one of the most competitive guys." You see it in his play-calling over the years and he's coached "some amazing guys." They've been able to bond on their mutual connections and their love for the game. "This guy has won five Super Bowls. … He's been around greatness. He knows what it looks like. He knows what it sounds like. This guy has been a Coach of the Year not long ago."
📰 Wilson has spent time with offensive coordinator/assistant head coach Mike Kafka and quarterbacks coach/offensive pass game coordinator Shea Tierney, whom he has known all the way back to his days at N.C. State.
📰 If the Giants, who hold the No. 3 overall pick, do draft a quarterback, they will make sure he does everything to be ready to go.
📰 On what he saw from facing the Giants last season with the Steelers: "When you've got Dexter Lawrence chasing after you, Sexy Dexy, it's never a good thing. So now I'm glad that he's chasing after the other quarterbacks."
📰 Wilson likes the addition of safety Jevón Holland. "He makes tremendous plays all over the field. There's a lot of talented guys."
📰 Wilson said there is a lot of youth on the team that is "just about to have their breakout years in my opinion. I'm excited to be a part of all that."
