10 things to know about QB Russell Wilson

RUSSELL-WILSON-QUEST

The Giants officially signed quarterback Russell Wilson on Wednesday.

Here are 10 things to know about the 10-time Pro Bowl selection:

1. Wilson, 36, has started 199 regular-season games with the Seahawks (2012-21), Broncos (2022-23), and Steelers (2024). He is 121-77-1 as a starter in the regular season and 9-8 in the postseason, including two Super Bowl appearances. Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks, a 43-8 victory over the Broncos, at MetLife Stadium.

2. In fact, Wilson is a perfect 4-0 at MetLife Stadium, all as a member of the Seahawks. He defeated the Giants there in 2013 and 2017, the Broncos in the Super Bowl, and the Jets in 2016. His 117.1 passer rating in those games is the highest among 34 quarterbacks with at least four starts at MetLife Stadium, including postseason. According to NFL Research, Wilson would be the fourth quarterback to start a home game at a stadium in which he previously won a Super Bowl. The others are Matthew Stafford (SoFi Stadium), Tom Brady (Raymond James Stadium), and Joe Montana (Stanford Stadium).

3. His career stats include 46,135 passing yards (17th in NFL history), 350 touchdowns (12th), 111 interceptions, 64.7 completion percentage, and 99.8 passer rating (5th). On the ground, Wilson has rushed 1,024 times (2nd among quarterbacks) for 5,462 yards (fourth) and 31 touchdowns (tied for 20th).

4. His NFL accolades include 10 Pro Bowl selections (2012-15, 2017-21, 2024). Wilson led the NFL in passer rating in 2015 and touchdowns in 2017. Wilson was also named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2020 and received the Bart Starr Award in 2022.

5. Wilson has recorded 101 career regular-season games with a passer rating of 100.0+ since being selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, most in the league over that span. His 350 passing touchdowns since 2012 are second-most in the NFL.

The Giants have signed 10x Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson.

6. He is the lone quarterback in NFL history to accumulate 40,000+ passing yards and 5,000+ rushing yards for his career. Additionally, Wilson joined Peyton Manning (2012-14) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with 30+ passing TDs and 100.0+ passer rating in three consecutive seasons (2018-20).

7. Wilson enjoyed a successful collegiate career at North Carolina State (2008-10) and Wisconsin (2011) prior to being drafted by the Seahawks. He finished with 11,720 passing yards, 109 touchdowns and 30 interceptions to go with 23 touchdowns on the ground and one receiving touchdown.

He became the fifth player in NCAA FBS history to record at least 5,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards while starting 50 consecutive games. He also established an NCAA FBS record after throwing 379 consecutive passes without an interception.

8. Wilson was selected twice in the MLB Draft, first by the Baltimore Orioles (2007) and then the Colorado Rockies (2010). He opted to go to N.C. State, where he continued to play baseball and football, instead of playing for the Orioles out of high school.

He did play two years in the Rockies' minor league system as a second baseman but told them he would be giving up his baseball career to focus solely on football prior to getting drafted in 2012. However, he went on to switch teams two more times, first being acquired by the Rangers (2013) and then getting traded to the Yankees (2018). Wilson got into a spring training game in 2018 when he pinch-hit for Aaron Judge to face Max Fried, now a member of the Yankees, at the plate.

9. Wilson was born in Cincinnati but grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where he attended Collegiate School. He is the second of three children to parents Harrison and Tammy Wilson. Athletics run in the family, as Harrison also played football and baseball at Dartmouth University before playing for the San Diego Chargers during the 1980 preseason. Wilson's older brother, Harry, played football and baseball at the University of Richmond, while his younger sister, Anna, played basketball at Stanford.

10. The 36-year-old quarterback is married to Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Ciara. Founded in 2014, Russell Wilson and Ciara's Why Not You Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty through education, empowering youth to lead with a why not you attitude. The foundation supports student access to equal education opportunities, children's health and food security initiatives. Its mission is to equip today's youth with the skills and opportunities to become tomorrow's leaders.
