The Giants continued to make moves ahead of the start of the new league year and re-signed punter Jamie Gillan and tight end Chris Manhertz, who were set to become unrestricted free agents.
The free agency signing period begins at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12.
Earlier, the team also brought back long snapper Casey Kreiter, outside linebacker Tomon Fox, and quarterback Tommy DeVito. The latter two were set to become exclusive rights free agents.
Gillan is entering his seventh NFL season, fourth with the Giants. He played three seasons with the Browns before joining the Giants in 2022.
Gillan's 41.2-yard career net punting average is the highest in Giants history (since 1976, when it became an official statistic).
A native of Inverness, Scotland, Gillan moved to the United States as a teenager and picked up his nickname "The Scottish Hammer" from his high school football coach. Gillan grew up playing rugby and played for Highland Rugby Club, before attending and playing rugby for Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh. He did not play football until midway through his senior season at Leonardtown (Md.) High School.

Manhertz, meanwhile, will begin his 10th NFL season. Last year, he played in all 17 games and made 11 starts in his first campaign with the Giants. He played 342 snaps on offense and 165 on special teams.
Manhertz has played in 137 regular-season games with 64 starts for the Saints, Panthers, Jaguars, Broncos, and Giants. He accomplished all that after not even playing college football. Rather, he was a four-year basketball player (2010-14) at Canisius College, where he finished fourth in school history with 789 rebounds and led the team in rebounding in three consecutive seasons. He made the move to football after leaving Canisius and earned a tryout with the Buffalo Bills.
