Make the Case: Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter?

MAKE-THE-CASE-5

"Make the Case" is officially back on Giants.com for the 2025 NFL Draft.

In this series, we look at projections provided by analysts and then ask you, the fans, to weigh in on what the Giants should do in the draft.

Next up, we're going to take a look at the latest first-round predictions from NFL Network's Rhett Lewis and CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson.

Pick: Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State

Height: 6-foot-3 | Weight: 250 pounds

2024 Stats: 16 games, 68 tackles (43 solo), 12.0 sacks, 23.5 tackles for loss (led the nation), 2 forced fumbles, 4 passes defensed

Accolades: Unanimous All-American (2024), Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (2024), Smith-Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year (2024), 2x First-Team All-Big Ten (2023, 2024), Second-Team All-Big Ten (2022)

"Sure, the Giants spent substantial draft capital in the trade for Brian Burns last year and the selection of Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 5 overall in 2022. But in keeping the Eagles' championship formula in focus, you can never have too many high-quality defensive linemen, and Carter is the best in this class."

Pick: Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado

Height: 6-foot | Weight: 188 pounds

2024 Stats: 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns; 36 tackles (25 solo), 4 interceptions, 11 passes defensed, 22 receptions for 212 yards and 1 touchdown allowed, 38.8 passer rating against (according to PFF)

Accolades: Heisman Trophy (2024), AP College Football Player of the Year (2024), Walter Camp Award (2024), Chuck Bednarik Award (2024), Fred Biletnikoff Award (2024), Lott Trophy (2024), 2x Paul Hornung Award (2023, 2024), Unanimous All-American (2024), Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year (2024), 2x First-Team All-Big 12 (WR & CB) (2024), Consensus All-American (2023), First-Team All-Pac-12 (All-Purpose) (2023), Second-Team All-Pac-12 (CB) (2023), Second-Team All-SWAC (2022), SWAC Freshman of the Year (2022)

"Hunter is the best athlete -- and the best player -- in this draft class. We've had otherworldly cornerbacks and wide receivers in previous classes but he's a two-fer, able to dominate on both sides of the ball and take over games. The big question: where will the team that drafts him want him to play? And if it's, say, at cornerback, how big will be the package of offensive plays for Hunter. Because lining up for 120 snaps a game, like he's done for the Buffs, isn't sustainable in the NFL."
