Make the Case: Shedeur Sanders vs. Abdul Carter

MAKE-THE-CASE-4

"Make the Case" is officially back on Giants.com for the 2025 NFL Draft.

In this series, we look at projections provided by analysts and then ask you, the fans, to weigh in on what the Giants should do in the draft.

Next up, we're going to take a look at the latest first-round predictions from two of ESPN's top draft analysts - Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yates.

Pick: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

Height: 6-foot-1.5 | Weight: 212 pounds

2024 Stats: 13 games, 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 74.0 completion percentage, 4 rushing touchdowns

Accolades: Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year (2024), Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (2024), First-Team All-Big 12 (2024), Deacon Jones Trophy (2022), SWAC Offensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-SWAC (2022), Jerry Rice Award (2021), SWAC Freshman of the Year (2021), Second-Team All-SWAC (2021)

"Sanders throws with pristine accuracy and touch -- he passed for 4,134 yards and completed 74% of his throws last season -- but he must improve his urgency under duress. With Wilson and Winston sharing the QB room with him, he could learn and keep developing without the pressure of being immediately thrown into the QB1 role."

Pick: Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State

Height: 6-foot-3 | Weight: 250 pounds

2024 Stats: 16 games, 68 tackles (43 solo), 12.0 sacks, 23.5 tackles for loss (led the nation), 2 forced fumbles, 4 passes defensed

Accolades: Unanimous All-American (2024), Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (2024), Smith-Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year (2024), 2x First-Team All-Big Ten (2023, 2024), Second-Team All-Big Ten (2022)

"In his first season as a full-time edge rusher (after playing primarily off-ball linebacker in past years), Carter had 12 sacks and 23.5 total tackles for loss. I see elite traits on the tape. And considering the Giants have holes all over their roster, they might opt for the best player on the board. They'd have something with Carter, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence II up front."
