Giants.com is counting down to the start of the team's 2023 training camp with 23 questions in 23 days.
Each day, a member of the crew will answer one question about the roster, coaching staff, schedule, and much more.
13) What will Daniel Jones do for an encore?
Since the Giants signed Jones to the multi-year contract, this has been one of the biggest offseason questions. In Year 1 under coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Jones put together his best overall season in almost every category. He set career highs in passing yards and completions while breaking franchise records in completion percentage, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. So, what can be expected as a follow-up?
First, one cannot understate how important it was for both Jones and the entire offense to remain in the same system. Next, general manager Joe Schoen made it a priority to add speed around Jones. Schoen traded for Darren Waller, one of the most explosive tight ends and playmakers in the league, before signing Parris Campbell and bringing back Darius Slayton. Isaiah Hodgins was also re-signed, while veteran Jamison Crowder was added as well. The Giants then traded up to select Jalin Hyatt, last year's Biletnikoff Award winner, in the third round, adding another talented receiver to the group. Let's not forget that Sterling Shepard and Wan'Dale Robinson will also return after suffering season-ending injuries last year.
Jones proved to have strong decision-making skills in 2022, and as he grows even more comfortable in Daboll's and Kafka's offense, I expect that to carry over in Year 2.
