Giants.com is counting down to the start of the team's 2023 training camp with 23 questions in 23 days.
Each day, a member of the crew will answer one question about the roster, coaching staff, schedule, and much more.
2) Who will be the Giants' Defensive MVP?
Dexter Lawrence. How can I pick anyone else? He was the Giants' best defensive player last season, and I don't see why it will be any different this year. When he is double teamed, he is able to hold off both defenders against the run and still disrupt against the pass. When Wink Martindale is able to get him in 1-on-1 opportunities against opposing centers, he dominates routinely. The Vikings had no answers for him in the playoff game, and without Lawrence's performance, the Giants do not advance to the second round of the playoffs. I see no reason he won't be just as dominant in 2023.
The only other players I'll list as possibilities are the team's two edge rushers – Azeez Ojulari and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Both have high-end pass rush ability and are still young with possible large jumps in play quality and production in the near future. But edge players rarely get to double-digit sacks in Wink's system. Lawrence's ability against the run, in addition to his pass rush, gives him the nod here.
