The Giants hosted their sixth training camp practice, which was also their second consecutive padded practice, on Tuesday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. It was steamy with a light breeze and temperatures touching the low 80s.
Here's what I saw from the sideline:

* The Giants ran 9-on-7 drills for the first time, which features the Giants offensive line, two tight ends and a running back going against the front seven of the defense. The offense won more of those reps than they lost, springing several long runs off the right side of the offensive line. Daniel Bellinger sealed the edge on more than one play to help open up space for those long runs. The running backs also flashed good vision, routinely cutting back to find room in the middle of the line. It's important to note for the Giants defense that Dexter Lawrence did not participate in the 9-on-7 or 1-on-1 drills as he is still recovering from an illness.
* The second day of 1-on-1 drills between the offensive and defensive lines featured great competition. Andrew Thomas was flawless, winning all his reps and not letting the rusher near the quarterback. Aaron Stinnie had a good competition with Ryder Anderson, challenging him on their first rep. They lined up against each other on the following rep and Stinnie won the matchup. He didn't lose any reps the rest of the period. Jermaine Eluemunor was solid at right tackle, and so was Josh Ezeudu, who closed out the period with a strong rep against Kayvon Thibodeaux. Jalen Mayfield had a very strong rep against Boogie Basham, who moved inside to defensive tackle for a rep.
* Giants defensive tackles had some strong moments during 1-on-1s. Jordan Phillips had a quick swim move that led to a quick win against Jon Runyan Jr., who has otherwise been very solid. DJ Davidson flashed a power move on a couple of reps, working his way into the backfield. Rakeem Nunez-Roches displayed strong power to win against a backup guard. Timmy Horne and Jordon Riley also won with power moves inside. Outside, Azeez Ojulari had a pair of wins and Brian Burns had one of his own, both finding space inside of the right tackle.
* While the offensive and defensive linemen were competing in those drills, the wide receivers and defensive backs were going against each other on another field. Daniel Jones hit Isaiah Hodgins on a well-placed deep throw over his shoulder for a touchdown. Tommy DeVito also hit undrafted rookie John Jiles on a deep throw for a score. The defenders made some plays, too, with Andru Phillips anticipating a short pass to grab an interception and Tre Hawkins breaking up a pair of passes.
* In team drills, the defense consistently made plays throughout practice. Gervarrius Owens made the play of practice, deflecting a ball to himself to secure an interception, barely getting his feet in on the sideline. Nick McCloud had two consecutive pass deflections and was mad at himself for not coming up with an interception after jumping a slant. Bobby Okereke and Timmy Horne had very physical run stops at the line of scrimmage. Andru Phillips had a pass deflection. Cor'Dale Flott did a nice job working back to the ball to knock a pass away intended for Nabers. Brian Burns just missed a sliding interception after a pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage by Jordon Riley. Burns, Thibodeau, linebacker Dyontae Johnson and Matthew Adams all had pressures that could have been sacks.
* Wan'Dale Robinson and Dennis Houston both had sliding catches during practice. The players are off tomorrow before practicing on Thursday and Friday.
