Thursday was a hot one at training camp. Friday came along and said, "Hold my Gatorade."
With the temperature rising, competitions followed suit on the practice fields at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Players will get Saturday off and return Sunday before a week with the Detroit Lions, who the Giants will host for joint practices leading into Thursday night's preseason opener.
Here's what you need to know from a sticky practice in East Rutherford:

TOUCHDOWNS
Jalin Hyatt talked after practice about the emphasis on explosive plays, but the second-year receiver is willing and able to do the dirty work. The Biletnikoff Award winner showed strong hands on a pair of contested catches during 1-on-1 drills, including a touchdown from Daniel Jones.
In the same period, Malik Nabers, another young playmaker, ran across the back of the end zone and caught a scoring pass from Jones.
During 11-on-11, Jones found veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson II for a red-zone touchdown.
Rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. and second-year quarterback Tommy DeVito scored on short touchdown runs.
TAKEAWAYS
After a three-interception performance on Thursday, the defense broke up plenty of passes on Friday but didn't technically notch a pick. Safety Jason Pinnock came down with a pass during a two-minute drill, but defensive lineman Ryder Anderson would have sacked the quarterback before the pass.
Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen said the competition to play opposite two-time Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence on the defensive line is as strong as any on the team.
"I feel like we've got really good depth," Bowen said. "And right now, as it stands, there's going to be some good football players that don't make this team in that room, and they're battling. So, it'll be interesting to see how that shakes out."
TOP PLAYS
From beginning to end, cornerback Deonte Banks had perhaps his strongest practice of training camp so far. Banks forced a handful of incompletions, including one in a two-minute situation.
Another name that was hard to miss on Friday was Dru Phillips, the Giants' third-round pick out of Kentucky. Known as a physical cornerback, the rookie broke up a handful of passes, including a pair during 1-on-1 drills.
Nabers flashed his toe-tapping skills with multiple sideline catches.
Cornerback Cor'Dale Flott kicked off 1-on-1 drills with a pass breakup on a long attempt down the right sideline.
Outside linebacker Brian Burns got stronger as the day progressed, notching two would-be sacks in the final team period. Pinnock also got in on the action and found his way into the backfield on a play.
