Michael Strahan named to Senior Bowl 75th Anniversary Team
After being named a finalist back in September, legendary Giants defensive end Michael Strahan has officially been named to the Senior Bowl 75th Anniversary Team.
Originally selected in the second round (No. 40 overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft out of Texas Southern, Strahan went on to collect 141.5 sacks, officially the sixth-most in NFL history, on his way to a Hall of Fame career.
Strahan finished his 15-year NFL career, all of which was spent with the Giants, just a half-sack shy of Lawrence Taylor for the unofficial franchise sack record. He was the NFL sack leader in both 2001 and 2003, and his mark of 22.5 sacks in 2001 is currently tied with Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt for the most in a season in NFL history. His performance led to him being named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Strahan was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014 and had his No. 92 retired by the Giants in 2021 following six All-Pro selections, seven trips to the Pro Bowl and a Super Bowl Championship (SB XLII). He was also named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team.
The all-time Giants great is one of three defensive ends on the Senior Bowl 75th Anniversary Team. Joining Strahan is DeMarcus Ware and Jason Taylor, both of whom have also been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
According to the Senior Bowl's official release, "The 75th Anniversary Team selections were made through a process that included a public online fan vote, a poll of all 32 NFL general managers, and consideration from the Senior Bowl's selection committee.
"The lineup includes 19 Pro Football Hall of Famers, 8 NFL MVP awards, 119 All-Pro 1st-Team selections, 63 All-Pro 2nd-Team selections, 253 Pro Bowl selections, 3 Rookie of the Year selections, 2 Offensive Rookie of the Year selections, 5 Defensive Rookie of the Year selections, 8 NFL Defensive Player of the Year selections, 4 AFC & NFC Defensive Player of the Year selections, and 5 NFL Offensive Player of the Year selections."
