If the only argument against the Giants drafting Mason Graham is they already have Dexter Lawrence, just talk to any Michigan fan about having not one, but two premier interior defensive linemen. Better yet, ask someone from Ohio State.
Graham and Kenneth Grant entered the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine ranked fourth and 20th overall by Daniel Jeremiah, respectively. Together, they set the tone for the Wolverines, who won the national championship in 2023 and upset their rivals once again in 2024.
"If he eats, I eat," Grant said. "If he eats, I eat as well."
There must be a lot of food in Ann Arbor.
Graham, listed at 6-3 and 320 pounds, destroys blocks as a former high school wrestler. Grant, meanwhile, is the same height but 20 pounds heavier.
"The combination, he's a bigger dude," Graham said. "Obviously, he plays zero technique and probably three techniques, but we're both very athletic players. I feel like we work well off each other. Having two big guys that are dominating inside, I feel like we help each other, and he's an awesome player."
If a fan needs further evidence of what a Graham-Lawrence alliance could look like, Grant even named the Giants' three-time Pro Bowler as someone he watches. In fact, it was the first name out of his mouth before Tampa Bay's Vita Vea.
"Definitely it's my power," Grant said when asked what aspect of his game best translates to the NFL. "It's working on my power watching … all those guys using their power and their body size."
Having two potential first-round draft picks side by side led to some spirited days in Ann Arbor.
"I just feel like every day in practice, [we were] competing with each other, trying to one-up each other in practice, who can do the best stuff, who's knocking people back, who's pass rushing," Graham said. "It's just a friendly competition, but he's a freak athlete."
A native of Mission Viejo in Orange County, Calif., Graham was a two-way player in high school. He was also a two-time Trinity League heavyweight wrestling champion and helped the team win the league title as a junior.
"It was more of just a hobby to me out of season," Graham said of wrestling. "I heard one of my high school coaches actually recommended to me to do it. It wasn't something that I was like dying to do, but I feel like it was good for me in the long run. I didn't really have much technique, but I just kind of went out there. I tried to beat the other person as best I could.
"I feel like it helps a lot. Going into it, I was skeptical of doing wrestling because just all the stuff that goes with it. But I feel like it's helped a lot with my leverage, just feeling out O-linemen, you know, you're wrestling another guy. You guys are getting tangled up, and that's kind of how the O-line and D-line works."
It clearly worked. Graham became a two-time All-American and the 2023 Rose Bowl Defensive MVP.
"I feel like I affect every snap -- run or pass," Graham said. "I feel like I'm a dominant player, one of the most dominant players in this class."
Meanwhile, behind the Graham-Grant wall was another potential high draft pick in cornerback Will Johnson. Why should he be chosen in the top 10?
"I feel like you can just watch his tape," Graham said. "He's gone against some of the best receivers, played at the highest level, did really well against all those receivers, plays fast on tape, really good player. I think he should go high up there."
