'Good, phenomenal & humongous': Dexter Lawrence, Andrew Thomas recovering well

By the time the calendar flipped to December last season, the Giants had already lost two of their top players to injuries.

After going the first six games of the 2024 campaign with the same offensive line, the Giants lost left tackle Andrew Thomas to a season-ending foot injury. Six weeks later, the team's captain on the other side of the line of scrimmage, three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, suffered an elbow injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the year.

While speaking to the media at the 2025 NFL Combine Tuesday morning, Giants general manager Joe Schoen provided positive updates on the linemen, starting with Lawrence.

"Dex is good," Schoen told the media. "You saw him at the Pro Bowl, so I'm assuming he's good. I haven't seen him physically but he played tug-of-war, so he looks good."

Lawrence participated in The Big Spike and Tug-of-War events at the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando earlier this month. The 27-year-old served as the anchor on one of the NFC's Tug-of-War teams, which emerged victorious over the AFC.

Prior to the injury, Lawrence had accumulated a career-high nine sacks, all of which came in the first seven weeks of the season.

When it comes to Thomas, Schoen sounded happy with the left tackle's progress.

"He looks phenomenal," Schoen said. "No boot on the foot or anything. He's moving well. He looks humongous right now. He's been in [the weight room]. Actually him, John Michael (Schmitz), Jimmy Morrissey, there were like five or six [players there], [Joshua] Ezeudu, offensive linemen that were just in there the other morning when I was in there. It's cool to see those guys hanging around and working together."

The Giants' starting offensive line played every single snap together through the first six games of the season before Thomas suffered his foot injury.

Four of the five starters on the O-line are set to return in 2025, with veteran Greg Van Roten being the one player set to hit free agency.
