Brian Baldinger breaks down Malik Nabers, Elijah Chatman game tape
Since arriving in East Rutherford a few months ago, wide receiver Malik Nabers has been making eye-opening plays on a consistent basis.
The rookie wideout continued his dominant start with a strong performance against the Texans on Saturday.
Nabers finished the game with four receptions for 54 yards, including a couple of impressive, athletic grabs.
The 21-year-old was then given the "Baldy's Breakdowns" treatment from NFL analyst Brian Baldinger.
"Malik Nabers makes every catch look easy using a variety of acrobatic skills," Baldinger wrote on social media.
The play the NFL analyst broke down was the rookie wideout's best and longest reception of the day. After beating his defender off of the line of scrimmage, Nabers was able to adjust to the ball in the air, secure possession and get both feet down inbounds for a gain of 21 yards.
"Special player, he's been doing it all camp long," Baldinger said about the rookie.
Preseason games represent an opportunity for the guys fighting for roster spots to show their coaches what they can do in an actual game setting.
One player that has made a strong case for himself this summer is undrafted rookie defensive lineman Elijah Chatman. Listed at 6-feet, 278 pounds, Chatman is not your stereotypical defensive tackle. But don't let his size fool you. Chatman, who was given the nickname "Baby Bison" at SMU, has flashed at practice over the last few weeks and recorded a team-high five total pressures in the preseason opener against the Lions.
The undrafted rookie picked up right where he left off against the Texans. The 23-year-old made a tremendous play when he chased down Texans running back J.J. Taylor 45 yards down the field. This seemed to catch the eye of everyone watching, including Baldinger.
"The greatest hustle play I've seen in three weeks of preseason football so far came from the Giants' Elijah Chatman" Baldinger said.
The analyst added, "45 yards down the field, Elijah Chatman chased him down. They're going to jump up and down in the film room tomorrow when they watch Chatman make that play. That's an amazing hustle play right there."
"He's done everything we've asked him to do," coach Brian Daboll said last week. "Again, he's a smaller guy, but he's got some length in his arms. He's got some explosiveness and quick twitch, maybe a little bit different than some of the bigger guys. I think he's developed since he's been here."
