Left tackle Andrew Thomas is done for the season after he underwent surgery on an injured foot.
Brian Daboll confirmed the news before Wednesday's practice as the 2-4 Giants gear up for a visit from the 3-2 Eagles. The head coach provided a few other injury updates and notes about the matchup.
Here's everything you need to know:
📰 "Everything was successful" with the surgery. "He had a Lisfranc. I've been texting back and forth with him this morning. It went well. I just feel terrible for him."
📰 Daboll said "you can't replace" Thomas. The former fourth overall pick was voted a team captain for the third consecutive season.
📰 Speaking of captains, defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence will not practice because of a hip injury. Neither will outside linebacker Brian Burns, who has been dealing with a groin injury but has not missed a game.
"I'm not going to get into whether I think they'll practice tomorrow. They're day-to-day."
Entering Week 7, the Giants' league-leading 26 sacks is their highest total through six games since they had 30 in 1985.
📰 Wide receiver Malik Nabers is doing "much better" and will return to practice in a red non-contact jersey. Daboll is "optimistic" about the rookie, who missed the last two games with a concussion.
📰 Running back Devin Singletary will practice in some capacity after missing the last two games with a groin injury. He was limited all last week before being downgraded to out.
📰 Daboll said they would open Wednesday's practice with Joshua Ezeudu at left tackle while Jermaine Eluemunor stays put at right tackle. They will rotate offensive line combinations throughout the week and make a final decision on Friday.
📰 Throughout the season, Evan Neal has taken the "majority" of his practice snaps at right tackle in case something happened to Eluemunor. The same went for Ezeudu and Thomas on the left side.
"We've moved Ezeudu around quite a bit, I'd say, the last six weeks for purposes. But we have (guard Aaron) Stinnie inside, who would be one of the first guys inside. He's (Ezeudu) really focused on trying to improve over there on the left side throughout one-on-ones and Evan has done the same thing at the right side in one-on-ones and on the look team. They're both improving, but that's the life of a backup. You got to make sure you're ready to go."
📰 The Giants "have talked" about the possibility of moving Eluemunor to left tackle.
📰 Thomas was part of a starting offensive line that had played 100 percent of the snaps together through six games. Daboll thinks it's always easier to replace just one spot in case of injury, instead of switching multiple players around. "But you want to make sure you're doing what's right for the team because the line, they've been doing a nice job."
📰 The next person "has to step up just like Azeez (Ojulari)" had to do for Kayvon Thibodeaux. "That's the expectation of being on the football team and being ready to go when your number's called."
📰 Will Neal continue to work on the right side exclusively? "We've talked about that. There's a potential we could start working him at the left side as well. We're going to focus him on the right side right now and continue to help develop his game."
📰 What has Daboll seen from Ezeudu? "He's improved. Albeit in practice, in the one-on-ones, in the show team, on the reps that he gets for Andrew or for whoever else we put him in for. I think (Offensive Line Coach) Carm (Carmen Bricillo) and (Assistant Offensive Line Coach) James (Ferentz) have done a good job with his development. Again, he's not going to be Andrew. He's going to be Ezeudu, just like Evan is going to be Evan. But there's been improvement in a variety of areas with all those younger players. That's what it needs to be, regardless of what position it is."
📰 Daboll said they won't open any practice windows this week for players currently on injured reserve. That list includes kicker Graham Gano.
📰 Sunday will be the Giants' first game against running back Saquon Barkley, who was voted a top 100 player in franchise history in celebration of the 100th season. "I know that the people that have been around him have a great deal of respect for Saquon. Our job is going to be to do what we need to do. He's a tough player to defend and we're going to have our hands full."
📰 Punter Jamie Gillan, who was inactive on Sunday after experiencing tightness in his left (kicking) hamstring at the end of the practice week, will not participate on Wednesday.
