ESPN's Field Yates and Mel Kiper Jr. combine for 3-round mock draft

Only eight days remain between now and the start of the 2025 NFL Draft.

We recently heard from ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. regarding his new predictions for the first round of this year's draft.

This week, Kiper joined forces with his ESPN colleague, Field Yates, as the two combined for a three-round mock draft in which the analysts alternated picks.

Here are their predictions for each of the Giants' first four picks, along with commentary from the analysts.

Pick at No. 3: Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State

Analysis: "The second-rated player on my board is just too good for the Giants to bypass, even with the QB concerns. They can wait until Day 2 to address that, especially if they aren't sold on Colorado's Shedeur Sanders. The Giants already have a quality edge rush group, but it'd become that much nastier with the addition of Carter, who had 12 sacks in 2024." -- Field Yates

Carter primarily lined up at off-ball linebacker in his first two seasons at Penn State, totaling 11.0 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, nine passes defensed, one interception, and three forced fumbles to go with his 104 total tackles (61 solo). He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media both seasons, while being tabbed first-team all-conference by the Big Ten coaches in 2023.

Carter then transitioned to a full-time edge rusher this past season and put together a breakout campaign. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound pass rusher picked up 12.0 sacks and a nation-high 23.5 tackles for loss, along with two forced fumbles and four passes defensed, on his way to being named Unanimous All-American and first-team all-conference.

He was also selected as the Nagurski-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and the Smith-Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Carter registered 10 games with two or more tackles for loss out of 42 total contests (35 starts).

Pick at No. 34: Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville

Analysis: "After going another direction in the first round, the Giants can land an experienced passer with good arm strength. Shough threw 29 touchdown passes last season, and he'd have the opportunity to learn alongside Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston." -- Mel Kiper

Shough played seven seasons of collegiate ball with three different schools - Oregon (2018-20), Texas Tech (2021-23) and Louisville (2024).

However, injuries derailed several of Shough's early seasons. It wasn't until his final year at Louisville that the 6-foot-5, 219-pound quarterback was able to play every game for his team before opting to not play in Louisville's bowl game.

Shough went 8-4 as a starter in 2024 and finished the year with 3,195 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, which earned him a selection as All-ACC honorable mention. He was also named as one of the three winners of college football's Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Pick at No. 65: Tate Ratledge, IOL, Georgia

Analysis: "No matter who is playing quarterback for the Giants, the protection has to improve. Ratledge has really impressive footwork and toughness." -- Field Yates

Ratledge started 37 games at right guard over the last three seasons at Georgia and allowed a total of just two sacks, six quarterback hits, and 10 hurries during that span.

He was named first-team All-SEC in each of the last two years, while also earning a selection as third-team All-American from the Associated Press this past season.

The 6-foot-6, 308-pound interior lineman was a part of Georgia's back-to-back College Football Playoff national champion teams in 2021 and 2022.

Pick at No. 99: Omarr Norman-Lott, DT, Tennessee

Analysis: "The Giants already have an elite interior presence in Dexter Lawrence II, but they lack a lot of depth. And Norman-Lott could contribute early in the pass rush (9.5 sacks in the past two seasons)." -- Field Yates

Norman-Lott began his collegiate career at Arizona State, where he played in 21 games over three seasons before transferring to Tennessee.

It was with the Volunteers that Norman-Lott landed himself on NFL radars. Across 23 games from 2023-24, the 6-foot-2, 291-pound defensive tackle racked up 9.5 sacks, as Yates mentioned, to go with 44 total tackles.
