Giants.com's John Schmeelk brings you Training Camp notes and observations straight from the sidelines:
It was in the mid- to high-80s during Giants training camp practice at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Just as coach Ben McAdoo built his team up over the course of the first three practices, he will repeat a similar process the next four days as he put his team in pads for the first time after a day off on Monday. The Giants wore only their shoulder pads today and began to incorporate a lot more contact into their drills. It was a shorter practice, but I would expect the length to increase as the week goes along.

• The Giants utilized half-line drills to practice their running sets today. Only the center and the guard and tackle that the play is being run towards is on the field against two defensive linemen and a linebacker. A tight end or running back fills out the four players blocking on offense. It was a good introduction into full contact with shoulder pads, something these guys haven't done since their playoff game against Green Bay in January.
• I really enjoyed watching the physical matchup between the linebackers and the fullback leading into the hole on those plays. Jonathan Casillas won a couple of those battles throughout the drill.
• One note from former tight end Howard Cross while watching that portion of practice. He was impressed with how Evan Engram was able to handle the initial burst of the opposing defensive tackle and not get pushed into the backfield.
• During those running drills, the wide receivers and defensive backs went one on one as well. I only saw a few of these reps, but Odell Beckham Jr. was matched up with Janoris Jenkins on his second rep and beat him across the field for a 20-yard catch.
• Aldrick Rosas was four-of-four kicking field goals, including makes from 42 and 50 yards.
• Eli Apple and Mykkele Thompson combined for a great block on a gunner during special teams. The gunner barely got 20 yards down the field.
• Eli Apple made a nice play on Beckham in coverage during 7-on-7, knocking a pass away on a route towards the sideline. Nat Berhe ducked in front of Jerell Adams to knock a pass away early in practice.
• It was a great throw by Geno Smith between the safety and cornerback playing Cover 2. Jerell Adams came up with the grab right in between Michael Hunter Jr and Andrew Adams.
• There were two nice sideline catches from Darius Powe and Tavarres King, both tapping their feet in bounds.
• Defensive end Jordan Williams had a nice pass rush to knock the ball out of the hand of quarterback Josh Johnson during a team drill.
• Eli Manning hit Brandon Marshall on an in-cut during team drills. It looked like an insignificant play, but it looked similar to the play they failed to time up (and Marshall talked about to the media) on Saturday. Those are the little things a quarterback and wide receiver sync up during camp.
• Overall there weren't a lot of deep pass sets, so judging pass protection was difficult. There were a lot of play action passes and quick throws. We should get a better look at pass blocking the next couple of days.
