The Giants will have a new quarterback when they line up for the first snap in Week 1. But whose voice will he hear in his helmet?
That is to be determined.
Brian Daboll, who took over play-calling in addition to his head coach duties last season, said that decision will be made when it's time for preseason games.
"Look, I have confidence in our staff," Daboll said. "I have confidence in (assistant head coach/offensive coordinator) Mike (Kafka). I have confidence in the offensive guys. Again, what changes will be made, I'm going to go through the offseason and OTAs.
"You're going to see, I know last year you saw me with the microphone, holding it, the walkie-talkie. You'll see Mike with the microphone at times this year. We will go through that whole process leading to the preseason games and see where we are. To answer your question, I got to do both jobs better."
Speaking of his staff, there are some new faces heading into Daboll's fourth season as head coach. Among them is offensive assistant/minority coaching fellow Troy Brown.
A three-time Super Bowl champion and member of the Patriots Hall of Fame, Brown retired as the franchise's all-time leader in receptions and punt returns. If that weren't enough, he added defensive back to his resume in 2004. It's something to file away with two-way star and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter high on everyone's draft board.
"It's good to have Troy on board with us," Daboll said. "I would say when I started out coaching as a position coach, as a receiver coach, I was very young. I was inexperienced and I was very young. Fortunately, he was in the receiver room along with a guy by the name of (former NFL wide receiver) David Patten, God rest his soul, two veteran receivers that helped me grow as a young coach. I learned more from them than a lot of people.
"It's good to have him here, and he's been a very productive player for the 15 years he's played. He's also played DB. One year I think he was second on the team in interceptions. Again, he was maybe at a different stage where he was more of a veteran. He knew the offense inside and out. Put him over there, he was playing nickel, has a few interceptions the year that he played. But he was smart, tough, he loved the game of football. He was competitive. He had great traits to be able to do that. Again, when he was playing it later in his career, he didn't need to meet with receivers as much because he knew the offense inside and out. So probably a little bit of a different dynamic."
In addition to Brown, Daboll touched on other new assistants and what they bring to the team.
"I think (secondary coach/pass game coordinator) Marquand (Manuel) has done a nice job," Daboll said. "(Cornerbacks coach) Jeff Burris is a former first-round pick that I think he can help in certain areas with some of the players. (Cornerback) Tae Banks was a first-round pick. It'll be a good experience.
"Brought (assistant quarterbacks coach) Chad Hall in, who has been with me for four years, who is an exceptional football coach. Good to have him back. Troy Brown as we mentioned. (Running backs coach) Ladell Betts from Iowa. Seems like I got a bunch of Iowa guys on the staff. (Defensive assistant) Steve Ferentz, (defensive assistant) Grant Morgan. Looking forward to working with all those guys."
