Head Coach Brian Daboll
BRIAN DABOLL: A couple housekeeping items. Added (tackle) Tyre Phillips, good to have him back, he had a good workout yesterday. (quarterback) Tim Boyle, as did he, he had a good workout yesterday. And then this morning we added (tight end) Jordan Murray, all to the practice squad, a tight end. Released (linebacker Curtis) Bolton, (running back) Jakob (Johnson) and (tackle) Garret Greenfield. And we'll open up (outside linebacker) Kayvon's (Thibodeau) window, so he'll start, optimistic that he'll be ready to go. And everybody's practicing.
Q: That includes (quarterback) Daniel (Jones)?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yes.
Q: How do you plan on handling four quarterbacks now?
BRIAN DABOLL: It would be normal for us, obviously we have another quarterback. But individuals, routes, and then obviously (quarterback) Tommy (DeVito) will take the reps with the ones and (quarterback) Drew (Lock) will take most of the look team reps.
Q: Why did you sign Tim Boyle?
BRIAN DABOLL: He had a good workout yesterday, so worked out a bunch of guys, he did a nice job and bring him in and start coaching him up.
Q: What will Daniel do as a number three in practice?
BRIAN DABOLL: What Tommy did, go through individuals, throw routes, do all the stuff that DeVito did.
Q: And in this situation, sometimes in this situation the player just leaves. Do you expect Daniel to be here for the remainder of the season?
BRIAN DABOLL: Daniel's been a pro, I've said that before. It's not the easiest situation, I understand that, but came in, good in the meetings, good attitude, be out here at practice.
Q: Do you anticipate Daniel being the emergency third QB or will that be Boyle?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, we'll go through this week, and then we'll make our decision at the end of the week.
Q: How about (tackle) Evan Neal, did he earn the right to run it back out there?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, Evan will be playing again. Did some good things, like everybody and some things we can work on with him. Have another good week here.
Q: You said you're going to wait until the end of the week. With Daniel and the third string emergency, isn't that either, 'hey, we're just going to sit him'?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, I'd say just with all of our things like we do on Fridays, we'll end up making our decision at the end of the week with every roster decision.
Q: How much input did (Senior Vice President and General Manager) Joe (Schoen) have in the decision to go with DeVito?
BRIAN DABOLL: Again, Joe and I have a lot of conversations. We sat down as a coaching staff, and we picked DeVito to be the quarterback.
Q: Without going into the specifics, obviously, how do you address that with the team? Do you tell the quarterbacks first, then the team? And what do you look for from the team as far as their response goes?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, I covered all that Monday. Met with the guys before the meeting, then told the players at the meeting, and today was really, 'we're on to Tampa', playing a good team. They're on a bye week and getting ready to come out here and practice and do the things we need to do.
Q: (Defensive lineman) Dexter (Lawence II) said yesterday he thinks Daniel's the best quarterback on the team, so how do you reconcile your decision to move off of what the players think is the best quarterback?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, again, I got a lot of respect for Dex. Dex has been a teammate of Daniel's for a while. There's a pretty good relationship with there. Look, everybody's not going to agree with the decision, and I understand that. We make the decision we feel is best and then we move forward and get ready to go for practice here.
Q: Is there any concern though because players wanting to be put in the best position to have success, the best position to win, that if there's questions from someone like Dex about a position as important as a quarterback, what the feeling could be in the locker room?
BRIAN DABOLL: Dex and I have a good relationship, and I respect Dex a great deal. We were just talking a little while ago, not about that. But again, everybody's going to have certain opinions. I got a lot of respect for all our players. I think we're focused, we'll be focused, and do what we need to do to play our best against Tampa.
Q: Would you expect losing the locker room if they think you're starting someone who's not as good as another option?
BRIAN DABOLL: No, I got a lot of confidence in our locker room. We got a close-knit group. Obviously not where we want to be with the record, but I have a lot of confidence in the players and the coaches and the chemistry that we have. We got to have a good week and get ready to play Tampa.
Q: Do you expect Daniel to be doing the same stuff he's doing today? Is that how you expect the rest of the year to go? Do you have any inkling that he could decide to not be here?
BRIAN DABOLL: I'd say I'm focused on today, and we'll take it through today and we'll go through tomorrow. But again, he's been in here with the meetings. Again, it's not an easy thing for him and I respect that. He'll come out here, he'll practice, and we'll take it day by day.
Q: You've talked since you really got the job about how important communication with the players is. You said you addressed it on Monday. Is it an important enough part, do you think, to continue to communicate and make sure you communicate why the move was made and what every day is going to bring from here on out?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, I think that's why we met on Monday after we made the decision, so now we're focused on this week, which is a challenging week, and you got to put everything you got into getting ready to play Tampa. Again, talked about it on Monday, and we're moving ahead here to Tampa this week.
Q: You may have said this on Monday too, but how have you seen Tommy grow from last year to now?
BRIAN DABOLL: He's had a year in the system. He was 3-3 for us when he played, 8 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, still learning the ropes as he played. He's got good leadership about him. I think he's a year into the system where he understands things even more. He's done a good job since he's been here, really since we had him last year and we'll work as hard as we can with him so he can be as ready to go.
Q: Daniel has always seemed to be a very team-orientated guy. Are you going to use him as a coach if he's not playing?
BRIAN DABOLL: No, I think his job is to be a quarterback. Again, not an ideal situation for him. I understand that, but he's been nothing but a pro.
Q: Some people have theorized because of the nature of the injury guarantee that if he got hurt here in practice, that potentially you guys as an organization prefer him to not be here. How would you clarify that? Do you want him here for the rest of the year?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah. He's out here. He came into meetings. He's ready to go for practice, the things we need him to do. I expect him to be every bit a pro he's always been.
Q: Have you told him you want him here for the rest of the season?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah. He'll be out here working. We've had, again, private meetings. Not the easiest thing, and I understand that, but he'll be out here, and he'll be working.
Q: Is Tommy the quarterback for the rest of the year, or is this a week-by-week evaluate type thing?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, I'm not going to go what's going to be. I'm going to focus on this week with Tampa. I'm going to try to do the best job we can to get him ready to play so he can go out there and perform at the highest level he can.
Q: Do you think we've seen Tommy's full skill set, or is there an untapped talent here that you can work with?
BRIAN DABOLL: He's a young player. Again, you can go off of what you looked at last year, which was 3-3 for us, 8 touchdowns, 3 interceptions. There were some good moments, and then there's a lot of moments to learn from for any young player. He's improved since he's been here. He's improved his knowledge, but he's going to have an opportunity to go out and do it against a (Buccaneers Head Coach) Todd Bowles defense, who brings a lot of pressure, so it'll be a big challenge for us.
Q: Do you think you'll be able to do more with him now, starting Sunday than you were obviously the last game you played last year?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, I think we'll do what we think we need to do game plan wise and what fits him well and try to be as good as we can be.
Q: Do you change a lot? I know when you create a game plan, you look at what the quarterback does well, what this team does well. When you go and make this game plan and you do it with Tommy, do you consider it significantly different? Do you expect the offense to look significantly different?
BRIAN DABOLL: Look, we'll do what we think is best for this week. Part of that is Tommy being the quarterback and some of the things that he prefers or doesn't prefer. But again, there's new pieces around him from when he played last year. He's got some new skill guys, some new offensive linemen, so we'll do what we think is best for the offense.
Q: I'm kind of asking when you're making this game plan, are you going and taking plays maybe that you hadn't used previously this season with Daniel because it's Tommy instead of Daniel this week?
BRIAN DABOLL: Yeah, I think it's a normal game plan week. You look at the tape, you evaluate the opponent you're playing, and you try to put the best plays that you can for success that week.
Q: And I know that's asking a question there based on the theory that people have that maybe you guys would not want him here. I guess why? Are the optics bad with telling the player we don't want you here? Is it just too strange to do that? Why would you not seem like you would not consider that? I'm not saying you should.
BRIAN DABOLL: Daniel's been a pro. He's been a good teammate for us. Again, this is the role that he has right now for us and I'm glad he's part of our team.
Quarterback Tommy DeVito
Q: What does this opportunity mean to you?
TOMMY DEVITO: It means a lot. Just another opportunity to get out on the field, showcase my abilities, play for my teammates and the organization.
Q: What is your message to your teammates as you take over?
TOMMY DEVITO: Same thing as it was last year, I'm going to give you everything I can on the field. I put my heart and soul into it all the time, leading up to it, the preparation, and ultimately going out and playing on game day. But most importantly, enjoying doing it.
Q: How do you feel for your friend, (quarterback) Daniel Jones?
TOMMY DEVITO: I feel like he's been a very close teammate to mine, especially last year. He kind of took me under his wing. Still to this day, even in the meetings today, he's going through everything with me, sorting out some little detail things. If he sees something, correcting it, helping me out in any way, shape, or form.
Q: What is different this year compared to last year? You were backing up (Jets quarterback) Tyrod (Taylor) at that time. So, you had those snaps in the second team. How prepared do you feel this time around?
TOMMY DEVITO: Yeah, I think just the opportunity I had last year to be able to play in games was all the difference it was to now. I have a year under my belt. I've played in preseason games, practice, and real games, so it's a little different this time around.
Q: When did you find out and how much have you been able to prepare to be QB1?
TOMMY DEVITO: I found out Monday morning, probably five minutes before you guys did. But yeah, it's been good. Everybody's been supportive. Just continuing to grind and get ready for Sunday.
Q: How do you feel your skill set has improved or changed since last year?
TOMMY DEVITO: Yeah, a lot mentally. Trying to avoid more negative plays than I was. Sometimes taking some sacks where I could have found a way to get the ball out or just make a better decision. So really just the growth from year one to year two of watching a lot more film of myself, of other people and just getting some more ideas for when I'm out there.
Q: (Head Coach) Brian (Daboll) had said there are some new skill position players on the roster compared to where you were in there last year. How comfortable are you with those guys right now?
TOMMY DEVITO: Very. Yeah, I'm going to get more and more comfortable throughout the week. I haven't had a ton of reps with them, obviously, this year if you will. I got a good amount in OTAs, which was definitely helpful, so I know how people move. And then the guys who were here last year, I know how they move. So just being able to get the ball in their hands and let them do what they do.
Q: You share the quarterback room with (quarterback Drew) Lock and with Jones. What are your feelings personally? You're the guy that's been elevated here and those guys will not be playing.
TOMMY DEVITO: We have a really tight group. I think that everybody knows it's not our decision. It's the coach's decision, the organization's decision, so it's nothing – there's no bad blood for any one of us, no matter who it was, whoever's going, we're always just supportive of each other because all three of us have been in that situation where you're not starting, or you are starting, and when you are starting, you just want all the support possible, and there's no elephant in the room, there's nothing like that. And I think that we have a really good group here, and they're supporting me really well as me and Drew were supporting DJ, Drew was supporting me, it would be the same way all the way around.
Q: Were you surprised by the news Monday morning?
TOMMY DEVITO: I wouldn't say surprised, I was open for all outcomes. It's kind of something that I've been preparing for since last year. You always say, 'stay ready, even though you're quarterback three. Stay ready, you never know'. And it's kind of similar to last year, you never know. But continuing to work throughout this whole season so far, learn, practice, just make the most of it, so that way when the opportunity comes, you'll be ready for it.
Q: How did you keep that positive mindset when you were a backup? You started last year, to be ready for this time what was the strength of that mindset?
TOMMY DEVITO: I think it's easier for me, personally, just because I went through it last year. Like, last year, it kind of hit me a little crazier, because I was like, 'quarterback three, how often does it really get to quarterback three', versus, 'I was real, I lived that last year'. So, I came into it with a different mindset this year, especially during OTAs and during camp, so, to have that under my belt, it means a lot.
Q: What's your message to the fans, in terms of how much fun you can bring to the equation here, and how you have a chance to win?
TOMMY DEVITO: For sure, you're here to win a football game, I mean you don't go out on the field without trying to win. We feed off of the crowd tremendously, when the crowd is into it, it helps keep us going, especially if something negative happens, the more they cheer for us, the more people are there, the excitement, the environment makes all the difference in the outcome of the game.
Q: Have you seen all the Italian and New Jersey memes, and the chicken cutlet memes?
TOMMY DEVITO: I try not to. I think my mom sends me a couple here and there, but I'm really kind of staying off social media and the outside stuff, trying to really hone in on football, and this week coming forward.
Q: How important is that for you? You were a celebrity last year was kind of unexpected, and now everybody knows you a heck of a lot more than they did the last year, but you've mentioned that before, the idea of how it's all about the football for you. How important is that, that you are known for the football and not for everything else?
TOMMY DEVITO: Very. Like I said, last year was a good story and all, it was kind of like how it happened, but all the fun and games outside, it was fun, it was last year, I'm kind of over that, I'm sticking to football now, not that I wasn't before, but really focused on that, the external stuff will be on pause. I already had talks with everybody around me, my inner circle, it is going to stay very tight and make sure that everything is about productions on Sunday.
Q: Do you think you can provide a spark? One of the things Brian Daboll said is you can provide a spark; do you think you can provide a spark?
TOMMY DEVITO: Yeah, I think I bring a certain confidence, energy, swag, whatever you call it, to the team, to the people around me. I think I've kind of always had that growing up from when I was even younger, so I kind of just bring that energy, it's all about really enjoying it for me, I kind of said that last year. It's like, it is a children's game, obviously there's a lot more money and a lot more stakes into it, but at the same time, if you don't enjoy going out there, you don't play with the same kind of passion that you would if you did, so really just trying to keep everybody's high spirits up, enjoy it, and just bring energy when I'm out there.
Q: From what you've seen, why hasn't the offense clicked as well as anyone kind of hoped going into the season?
TOMMY DEVITO: Yeah, I think it just comes down to the small details. Everybody, I'm sure, across the league, it's always the little things, we're like, 'one play here, one play there'. But ultimately, that's what it is, we weren't scoring points in the red zone situations, we just were missing the smallest details, so it's a block here, a pass, a catch, and it's literally so many things that it all just adds up and we're accumulated into that not being as productive as we can be. So just trying to hone in on those details and execute those harder.
Q: What is it going to be like to walk into that stadium on Sunday as the starting quarterback of the New York Football Giants?
TOMMY DEVITO: It's going to be a lot of fun. I've been there before, so I know what to expect. I know it can be an exciting one, so I look forward to it.
Q: You said a year ago that you proved you belong with the way you played in those six games, what do you have to prove now?
TOMMY DEVITO: Just to continue to build off it and show the growth from year one to year two, that was the rookie year version of myself, someone who has not been around the NFL at all. So, now have a year under my belt, I have a lot of high expectations for myself and continue just to evolve into that next step of player of what I need to be as far as making the decisions, staying in the green, trying to push the offense down to score points and ultimately lead the team.
Q: But how is the decision received in the locker room, just the quarterback change in general?
TOMMY DEVITO: Yeah, I've gotten a ton of support from everybody in the locker room, a ton of support. We understand how things went down, you feel for other people because everybody is a human being, and especially in New York, it's a pretty wild market if you will, with a lot of the outside noise and media. It can be swayed either way, but just continue to stay tight, especially in our group, we're a really tight group in our room and we cheer each other on and there for each other no matter what, so to be able to have that in this room, it helps us a lot.
Q: How good does it feel? Before you even started talking with us, you hear your teammates yelling, Tommy Cutlets, DeVito, and all that.
TOMMY DEVITO: It's good, I mean, I try to put everything into this for them. I play for the logo on the jersey, the name on my back, my teammates around me, my friends, family, the fans, I play for everybody, so I try to put my all into it and just continue to do that.
Defensive Lineman Dexter Lawrence II
Q: How hard did you take this personally because (quarterback) Daniel (Jones) and you are so close?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: Definitely hard, but I've been a part of this business. Just like last year when they traded my best friend in the middle of the season. It's part of the business and I understand that part of it. And like I said before, I feel for Daniel, works hard, great dude, relatable. It just sucks.
Q: What about the opportunity that (quarterback) Tommy (DeVito) gets now, how do you view that?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: I'm excited about that, he showed his flashes last year, obviously. And I have trust in him, and I trust in what the team has seen from him, so I'm excited.
Q: You know the pulse of this locker room as well as anyone. Would you say that it's still in solid order right now?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: I'd say so, I haven't seen a flinch, or I haven't seen any discouragement. I haven't seen guys fall apart – and that starts to happen first. So, I haven't seen it.
Q: (Quarterback) Drew (Lock) said a minute ago that Daniel's handling this as well as can possibly be expected given the situation. How would you say you've seen him respond?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: I'd say the same way, he still has a smile on his face. And I told him, 'You'll get another opportunity, and wherever it is, you're going to take advantage of it.' But I'm excited for Tommy, and it should be good.
Q: You talked a little bit about the business aspect of the decision. Is there a little irritation amongst players because it wasn't purely a football decision?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: I don't really know what decision it was, but at the end of the day, it's business. Your boss wasn't happy with your performance or what you've been doing, so somebody else got to do the job. It's like any other job in this world, the same will happen, so it's the business.
Q: What's your approach with seven games to go?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: Prove myself, prove this defense is a great defense, and rally among the offense and encourage, and keep the confidence.
Q: The fans sometimes start looking at next year, they start looking at the draft and stuff. How do you kind of weed that all out and stay focused on just trying to win football games?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: That's how you get hurt if you look onward. I think you've got to be present in the moment, in every moment you're in. Right now, I'm talking to the media and after this, I'm going to go eat. So be present in those moments and that's just how you've got to go about it.
Q: You often hear coaches say, 'We did this move because it gives us the best chance to win.' Do you guys feel like you're in the best position right now to win?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: I trust what the coaches think, and they think Tommy is the best way to go. I'm going to rally along that, and I'm going to play my hardest for Tommy, just like I played my hardest for Daniel and whoever goes after that.
Q: Is there any feeling, ownership, in the locker room that maybe if you look at yourself or other people, 'If we had played better, maybe you wouldn't have got to this spot with Daniel'?
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: Yeah, it's a team effort. Yeah, of course. We're losing, and he's a quarterback. I think that's just how the business goes and the nature of it. He's done a good job to help us win games and the defense haven't helped him. So, that's just how this game is going.
Q: The quarterback gets benched, or the coach gets fired, as opposed to benching the whole defensive line, right? I mean, that's not the way it usually works…
DEXTER LAWRENCE II: I mean I don't know how it usually works, but I know about if we don't play well, then things change. So that's what happens.

Quarterback Drew Lock
Q: What are your thoughts on them going with (quarterback) Tommy (DeVito) as the starter instead of you?
DREW LOCK: Two sides of it always. One, my job is to be there for him now and help him as much as I can this week, help him on the sidelines on Sunday and be a good asset to this team in any way possible. That's where my head's at still. But at the same time, the other side of the coin is, if you get to be the backup all year and the time comes and you end up still being a backup, you're upset. You want to be playing, everybody wants to play. There is two sides to that coin, but the one that I'm going to show here is what's important.
Q: How was the decision explained to you? Like you said, if you're the two, you think you're going to one, so how was it explained?
DREW LOCK: Simply put, similar situation last year with him. Felt like the team rallied around him well and gave them a little spark. That's what they know, that's what they've seen. The time in the preseason. That's what their decision was based on. That's what they're going with.
Q: Is there some confusion, disappointment on your part? Do you feel like… Did you see this coming?
DREW LOCK: Probably both. Definitely disappointed. But again, I'll just keep reiterating, my disappointment will not show one bit, around anyone in this facility or after that meeting upstairs. Obviously, I expressed this with them. But my job is to just tongue and cheek and keep rolling. I'll handle this like a pro. I'll be professional. That's something I'd pride myself in. I'm not going to be a guy that tears apart the locker room. I've got to build it up. I know winning and playing good on Sunday in the quarterback position is good for this team and I'm going to try to help him do everything we can.
Q: Do you feel like you were misled when you signed here?
DREW LOCK: No. Obviously, the situation can be looked at as that. Maybe I don't want to think that or feel that. So, that's where I'll stand and just believe that when my time comes, it's supposed to come. I'll be ready for it.
Q: Do you regret signing here? Obviously, if you stayed in Seattle, you would have been number two there.
DREW LOCK: No. Anytime you get to be on a new team, learn a new offense, grow as a quarterback, learn from (quarterback) Daniel (Jones), learn from these guys in this facility and keep learning. I feel like that carries weight moving into next year and the previous years. This is my fourth offense now. Three West Coast, now you get more of a New England traditional with a little Buffalo. I kind of got it all under the belt now and that's something I'd hang my hat on.
Q: You kind of mentioned that you expressed disappointment in the meeting. What did you say to him?
DREW LOCK: It was very simple, just kind of like I would say to you. I was professional. I didn't scream, didn't yell. I said, 'Look, I'm going to do everything I can to help, but I can't sit here and say that I'm not upset about it, I'm disappointed in the decision.' Obviously, their decision is their decision. Now, life moves on and I got to step out of this building (inaudible).
Q: Your injury over the summer, do you feel that might have set you back a little bit in this offense, in your progress?
DREW LOCK: Practice is practice, but you want to see a little game time. You want to see a little film from real games and having those couple drives. Not being able to get out there and show these guys in a real game setting what I can do. Sure, I guess that can weigh in. Especially with how he played last year. He's got more experience in this. Like I said, the team rallied around him. I'm standing here hoping that happens again and we start winning football games.
Q: Did the coaches tell you what the separator was between you and (quarterback) Tommy (DeVito) as far as the decision?
DREW LOCK: No, just really kept relating it back to the previous year and how it all played down in those, I think it was seven games that was left at the end of the year when he started. I'm pretty sure that it was pretty similar to this situation. Couldn't tangibly put it into X's and O's, but there was a feeling when he played, and I didn't get to show that to them.
Q: Obviously, there's was a variety of moves. Were you guys all in the room together or did you meet with (Head Coach Brian) Daboll separately?
DREW LOCK: No, it was separate.
Q: Brian (Daboll) then (Senior Vice President/General Manger) Joe (Schoen) or both?
DREW LOCK: No, Brian (Daboll) and Joe (Schoen).
Q: Together?
DREW LOCK: Together. DJ (Daniel Jones) was first, I was second and Tommy (DeVito) was third (laughs).
Those are funny stories we'll write a book on.
Q: Since you did come here to be the backup, do you look back and say, 'Maybe I would have had a better place to go than this?' considering you were not next in line here?
DREW LOCK: No, I've always been: 'Go with your gut.' Your decision is your decision. What happens in life is supposed to happen. I'm looking at this as something good's going to come from this and that's how I'm going to approach everything today. Live by that. Stay strong in that. Keep pressing on.
Q: There's some notion, outside of here, that they are starting Tommy (DeVito) because he's a very popular player and they want to put butts in the seats at 2-8.
DREW LOCK: Tommy (DeVito) is a way good enough player to be out there playing. With him being from here, sure, it could do that. I don't think that has anything to do with it. If it's going to go out there and be terrible football, I don't care popular the guy is, they're not going to do that. Like I said, from what they saw last year, that was good enough for them to run it back again.
Q: Were you playing well in practice this year?
DREW LOCK: I feel like I was. Scout team is scout team. Gets some good cards here and there. Get a couple of cards where you break the huddle and it's 'this is what they're hoping they call against this defense on this play.' But if you're doing it long enough, you kind of understand that and focus on that. But yeah I do. I enjoy going out there and doing it. You get to try some new things. It may take to a game, it may not take to a game. Just keep trying to get better.
Q: When they tell you it's based on what they saw last year, the kind of the juice that it gave the team, how do you not wonder, 'Well, why was I the number two the whole time then? Why wasn't he the number two then, if that's what you saw?'
DREW LOCK: Again, that's a question I might still have for myself. It was expressed to me that I was going to be the two. I don't know, it's an interesting situation. Not much I can really say about it besides, again, I'm going to be here for him. We're still communicating, still very good friends, believe it or not. I'm going to be here for him. This team needs to get a win. If we start winning, everything gets a little better around here.
Q: You missed time that summer. You didn't get in on some of those preseason games. Did you feel you made up that time? That you were up to speed? You did miss some valuable time there, but it still was a while ago.
DREW LOCK: I think the part that comes with that is when we go out to practice. After those summer reps and those in-game reps, you don't get any reps with the offense. Not much for them else to see, right? Get to go run scout team cards, you can kind of relate to some of them to some of them we have in the offense and think of it like that but it definitely hindered their ability to watch me in a game setting perform in this offense.
Q: Do you worry or wonder what it might look like and the message it sends to the locker room, when the meritocracy of the depth chart is kind of thrown out the window?
DREW LOCK: No, I can't say I've thought about that. No, I'm thinking about the Bucs. Maybe someone else thought about that but I have not.
Q: How have you seen Daniel (Jones) react? He got a bitter pill as well.
DREW LOCK: Obviously he's upset. But at the same time, he's in there in the meetings, came in on Tuesday, sat in there and watched the games with us. Honestly, it's not surprising. It's what I expected. Him being in there, helping Tommy (DeVito). Good quarterback rooms are fun to be in. The ones that get ugly, it's just a tough environment to be in.
Q: What was that like on the field today, seeing him basically as the fourth quarterback there?
DREW LOCK: Yeah, it's interesting. It's weird because it's not ever what you've seen, right? But again, he's upset. He's taking it as well as anybody would in that position.
Q: You said he helped Tommy (DeVito) in the meetings. Did he speak up at all in the meetings?
DREW LOCK: Of course. This or previously, like earlier in the season?
Q: No, I mean since his demotion.
DREW LOCK: Of course. (Offensive Passing Game Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach) Shea (Tierney) still asks him what he thinks about these plays. He asks us all what we think about the plays. He gets to Daniel (Jones), Daniel still gives his two cents. He's still very involved. I think Tommy (DeVito) and I, from an outside point of view, appreciate him for doing this.
Q: So, we can't ask him this tomorrow, but does he intend, from what he's told you, to stick around for the rest of the year? Because we've seen it with (quarterback) Derek Carr. Has he said, 'I'm going to be here the rest of the year?'
DREW LOCK: No, we haven't talked too much about it. Knowing the guy he is, they'll probably have to kick him out of here for him not to be here.
Q: How do you balance the disappointment of not being the number one guy right now with the support that you're going to generate for Tommy (DeVito) and the hurt you feel for Daniel (Jones)?
DREW LOCK: There's a ton of emotions involved in all of it. I would say, this is still a business. I want more jobs after this year. So, if I come in and be ugly and nasty, it just leaves a bad taste in these guys' mouths. Who knows how fast that spreads. I'm going to come in and be great. And not to mention, I've been really close with Tommy (DeVito). It's more than just a business thing. I appreciate him. He's a great friend and I want him to go out there and do well. He deserves to go out there and play well. He deserves to have this team behind him. I'm excited for him.
