Coughlin*: Atlanta was very, very good we were very, very bad. We came out and did exactly what we said we couldn't afford to do which is turn the ball over. "We had some opportunities in the first half to get ourselves in the game and make it competitive we weren't able to accomplish any of that. We went for it that was all my call the thinking it was 4th down and we needed to do something to generate a lift for our sidelines as it was all going one way and that did not work out either. It was very, very disappointing. We were excited to come in here they had lost a game the week before. They didn't play very well. They were excited about playing today and had won 10 straight in here and now it's 11. We didn't play well. We didn't stop the run which they had really quite frankly not been running the ball that much. We couldn't stop the run and couldn't get consistency on offense that was something we had talked about coming in here and being able to play well in all three phases and to take a step to the next level. Instead of taking a step forward, we went back. We didn't play well enough to get the job done.
How much did the events over the last couple of days weigh the players down:
There is no excuse for what happened here this afternoon. We are all saddened by the events that happened in Newtown, CT and I felt terrible about it and I'm sure everyone in the nation did as well not just us and for it to happen so close to home the players were very upset about it. When you have players that have young children and they could empathize with the parents of the young children that were killed. There was no one that could escape and no way it couldn't affect everyone but that is no excuse on how we played.
What were you most shocked by in the performance:
Consistency, that's the word I'll use. I don't want to say shocked by it but where was it? They did a good job and we are not taking anything away from them defensively. They reeled us in and Samuel is still that same guy we have faced before. DeCoud had a nice interception. They were able to do some things up front that allowed their secondary to make plays and got a couple of interceptions out of it and it really took the wind out of our sails.
What do you do next to bounce back:
We have two games to play. There is a lot of fire and a lot of character in that locker room. We have to come back from a devastating loss and shake it off somehow, someway. We have to comeback as competitors and prepare ourselves for a very difficult game next Sunday and then one to follow. With these two games left unfortunately we are 2 and 2 in this six game schedule and we needed to be better than that.
