Giants sign DB Darren Evans; LB Jarrad Davis placed on IR

ROSTER-MOVE

The Giants placed linebacker Jarrad Davis on injured reserve Tuesday night among a series of roster moves.

Defensive back Leonard Johnson was also waived/injured. In a corresponding move, the Giants signed defensive back Darren Evans.

Davis signed with the Giants prior to the start of free agency. He originally joined the team on December 28 and went on to start the season finale contest against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he registered 11 total tackles (six solo) and a half-sack.

The veteran linebacker also started both postseason games for the Giants and totaled seven tackles (five solo) and one quarterback hit across the two games.

Originally the No. 21 overall pick by the Lions in the 2017 NFL Draft, Davis played his first four seasons in Detroit. He then signed with the New York Jets prior to the 2021 season, where he played nine games with five starts.

The 28-year-old's career totals include 344 tackles (226 solo), 11 sacks, 24 quarterback hits, 20 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one interception and 10 pass breakups in 68 games (51 starts).

Johnson was signed to the roster on March 20. The 6-foot, 194-pound corner tore his ACL while training for the 2022 NFL Draft. He went undrafted and then unsigned as he recovered from the knee injury.

Evans originally signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft. He was waived at the end of training camp.
