The New York Giants today signed wide receiver/return specialist Kearis Jackson and cornerback Greg Stroman Jr. to their practice squad. In corresponding moves, the team released cornerback Alex Johnson and tight end Joel Wilson from the practice squad. The Giants also terminated the practice squad contract of tight end Lawrence Cager with an injury settlement.
Jackson, 5-11 and 196 pounds, went undrafted out of Georgia in 2023 and spent his rookie season with the Tennessee Titans. He appeared in two games last season and returned six punts for 48 yards (8.0), with a long of 14 yards.
In the 2024 preseason, Jackson also returned three kickoffs for 111 yards for Tennessee, with a long of 63 yards against the San Francisco 49ers. The Titans released him on Aug. 27.
Prior to the NFL, Jackson appeared in 55 games with 14 starts over five seasons at Georgia (2018-22) and recorded 78 receptions for 1,107 yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 35 kickoffs for 805 yards and 42 punts for 338 yards.
Stroman, 5-11 and 180 pounds, joins the practiced squad as a veteran addition.
The former seventh-round draft choice by Washington has appeared in 29 NFL games, 15 of which occurred in his 2018 rookie season. He also made three of his five career starts that season.
Overall, Stroman has recorded three interceptions, six passes defensed, two quarterback hits, one sack, one forced fumble and recovery in his career. On special teams, Stroman has also returned 10 punts for 25 yards and six kickoffs for 100 yards. He spent the past two seasons with the Chicago Bears, who released him at the end of August, after time on the practice squads of the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams.
Before being drafted, Stroman saw action in 50 career games at Virginia Tech (2014-17). In his final season, he was named First-Team All-ACC as a cornerback and honorable mention as a punt returner. Stroman returned 127 punts in his college career for 1,108 yards (8.7) and four touchdowns, including a long of 91 yards.
The 1-3 Giants are gearing up for a cross-country trip to face the 3-1 Seattle Seahawks, who lost their first game of the season on Monday night to the Detroit Lions.
