The New York Giants signed nose tackle Donovan Jeter, who was released by the Chicago Bears earlier in the week.
In a corresponding move, the Giants waived/injured wide receiver Jeff Smith.
Undrafted in 2022, the 6-foot-3, 325-pound Michigan product spent time last season with the Steelers and Commanders. He played in his first and only career game in Week 2 with Washington.
A four-year letterman with the Wolverines, Jeter appeared in 37 career games with four starts at defensive tackle. As a graduate senior in 2021, Jeter made 24 tackles, including two tackles for loss, and also had two pass breakups with one blocked kick to earn his fourth varsity letter.
Jeter was a four-star recruit and rated the No. 7 player in Pennsylvania by Rivals, leading Beaver Falls High School to the Class 3A State title and a 12-1 record in 2016. He was also an accomplished basketball player, playing in the Class AAA Championship and averaging 16.8 points and 10 rebounds per game.
