ILB Dyontae Johnson designated for return from injured reserve

DYONTAE-JOHNSON-PRIMEPOINT

Inside linebacker Dyontae Johnson, who turned heads in training camp before he sprained his ankle in the preseason opener, has been designated for return from injured reserve.

Coach Brian Daboll announced the news before Wednesday's practice as the Giants gear up for a visit from the Saints on Sunday.

Johnson spent the entire 2023 season on the Giants' practice squad after joining the team as an undrafted rookie from Toledo, where he played in 57 games across five seasons. He has yet to appear in a regular-season game in the NFL.

Johnson's return follows a string of recent injuries, particularly on defense. Two-time Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence was placed on injured reserve after he suffered a dislocated left elbow in the Giants' Thanksgiving Day loss in Dallas.

Lawrence was one of three defensive linemen hurt against the Cowboys. Rakeem Nunez-Roches sustained a stinger in the second half and D.J. Davidson was limited to 10 snaps after hurting his shoulder.

A week earlier, outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari (toe) was also placed on injured reserve.
