DE Jason Pierre-Paul Interview

jpp-article-0923.jpg

Q: You had a monster game, but the defense did not. How do you change that?

A: We just have to come out here and first of all practice like we want to play the game. We all have to play together or this will be it. This week we're going to shut [the Redskins offense] off.

Q: How do you go forward and win these three games that are remaining?

A: Coach is going to draw up a game plan, we're going to execute the plays. Today we did a good job and tomorrow we come in and execute plays again.

Q: What did you think when you were named defensive player of the week?

A: I didn't even know until Peter (John-Baptiste, VP, Communications) texted me and said I did. I said, 'Thank you.' That was all I could say.

Q: What do you think the biggest difference in your play this year is as opposed to last year?

A: Basically, I know all of the calls. I'm not thinking as much as I was last year. Last year I was on and off and I wasn't sure about all of the calls so I was playing slow. This year, coach taught me what I need to do better. I've just been playing to our level.

Q: Are you flattered when you hear people compare you to Lawrence Taylor?

A: I don't know much about LT, but I guess I'm doing a good job. It's a good thing.

Q: What is your reaction to everybody talking about your play Sunday night?

A: Everybody is talking about it, but I was just playing the game of football. It's great to hear people talk about it, but [we need to perform].

Q: What does your play say about your potential?

A: I have more potential to learn the game still. Doing what I did on Sunday, I'm still growing. It just made me feel better and I'm confident in myself that I can go out there and help my team out and win football games.

Q: You understand the sky's the limit?

A: Yeah. I'm still getting better and better each day.

Q: It seems like you don't run out of energy?

A: Oh, I run out of energy.

Q: Where does the hustle come from? A: It just comes from the heart. Ever since I was young, when I started playing football I didn't know too much, but I've had in my heart, just run. If you're going to do something, you might as well do it full speed, especially if you know the calls and stuff. Just go full speed. You might make a mistake, you're going to make mistakes, but once you do it full speed it's in the past. You have to keep going.
