The New York Giants have placed Nick Gates on injured reserve after the offensive lineman suffered a lower left leg fracture last Thursday night in Washington. In addition, offensive tackle Jackson Barton, who was on the Giants' practice squad, signed to the Las Vegas Raiders' active roster.
In his first career start at left guard, Gates suffered a lower left leg fracture and was carted off during the primetime matchup against the Washington Football Team. Gates was voted one of seven captains this season after originally making the team as an undrafted prospect in 2018.
Gates had started the previous 17 games, dating back to last season, at center. In 2019, Gates started two games at right tackle and one at right guard. Shane Lemieux, who had started the previous 10 games at left guard, including the season opener, was placed on injured reserve Thursday. Gates then moved to guard, and Billy Price started at center.
