EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants today made three transactions to reach the NFL's current roster limit of 85 players.
They terminated the contracts of two veterans - running back Alfred Morris and safety Chris Milton - and placed cornerback Jarren Williams on injured reserve with a quad injury.
The Giants entered their preseason opener against the Jets Saturday with the maximum 90 players. Yesterday, they traded a 2023 sixth-round draft choice to the Houston Texans to acquire special teams standout/cornerback Keion Crossen and placed three players on injured reserve: linebacker TJ Brunson (torn ACL), guard Kyle Murphy (ankle) and safety Joshua Kalu (torn pectoral).
They also switched No. 3 quarterbacks when they signed free agent Brian Lewerke and waived/injured Clayton Thorson (concussion).
After those moves, the Giants needed to remove three players from their roster by 4 p.m. today.

Morris, a 10-year veteran, was re-signed on Aug. 2 and ran twice for minus-four yards in the Giants' preseason opener vs. the Jets Saturday night. In 2020, he joined the Giants' practice squad on Sept. 30 and was thrice elevated to the active roster, the final time on Nov. 13. Morris played in nine games and had 55 rushing attempts for 238 yards and one touchdown and caught three passes for 19 yards, including one score.
Morris previously played for Washington, Dallas, San Francisco and Arizona and has 5,935 career rushing yards and 34 touchdowns.
Milton, who was preparing for his sixth NFL season, was signed as a free agent by the Giants on March 31. He did not play against the Jets. Milton played the previous two seasons for the Tennessee Titans and spending his first three years with the Indianapolis Colts.
Williams also did not get on the field vs. the Jets. He spent most of his 2020 NFL debut season on the Giants' practice squad. Williams played in two late-season games – vs. Arizona on Dec. 13 and Cleveland on Dec. 20 – and totaled 16 special teams snaps and had one special teams tackle vs. the Cardinals.
All NFL teams are required to cut their rosters to a maximum of 80 players by 4 p.m. next Tuesday, Aug. 24.
