Touchdowns & takeaways from OTA No. 4

ERIC-GRAY-BOBS

The Giants kicked off the second week of organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. They will also practice Tuesday and Thursday, when all three coordinators, players, and assistant general manager Brandon Brown will meet with the media.

They will have plenty to talk about based off the action at practices so far.

Here are the highlights from OTA No. 4:

TOUCHDOWNS

Dane Belton checked the "touchdowns" and "takeaways" sections on one play during an 11-on-11 team period. The fourth-year safety jumped a route for an interception, taking it the other way down the left sideline for what likely would have been a pick-six. Belton, whose NFL career started with a fumble recovery on the opening kickoff in his first game, also grabbed the first interception of OTAs last week.

Running back Eric Gray scored one for the offense from inside the 10, taking a short pass from Jameis Winston and gaining the edge to find the end zone.

TAKEAWAYS

In addition to Belton, fellow safety Tyler Nubin got on the board earlier in practice during a 7-on-7 period. The second-year pro, who holds the University of Minnesota record for most career interceptions, corralled one off a pass deflected by cornerback Cor'Dale Flott.

OTHER NOTABLE PLAYS

After they spent the vast majority of the first week in the red zone, the Giants moved the line of scrimmage back for most of Monday and aired it out at times. That started right away when Russell Wilson connected with wide receiver Jalin Hyatt on one of his patented moonballs for a gain of 40 yards. During his introductory press conference in March, Wilson said Hyatt is "a guy that's been untapped in terms of what knows he's capable of." That connection is certainly one to monitor throughout the spring and into training camp.

The tight ends had a strong showing in the passing game, beginning with a great catch by seventh-round pick Thomas Fidone II on a ball from Jaxson Dart over the middle. The rookie quarterback also dropped a nice pass in between a handful of defenders to Theo Johnson. Daniel Bellinger also made a spinning catch on a ball from Winston.

Dart showed his ability to throw on the run, rolling to his left to find wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette for a decent gain. Shortly after that, he hit wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey on the opposite sideline.

Defensive lineman Elijah Chatman batted down a pass at the line of scrimmage on one of the first plays of the team period. The 6-foot, 278-pounder also recorded a would-be sack, as did outside linebacker Brian Burns.
