With a commanding victory over the Indianapolis Colts in a win-and-in situation last week, the Giants clinched a playoff berth in the first season under coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. It will be their first trip to the postseason since 2016, when they finished 11-5 and secured the fifth seed as a wild card.
The 2022 Giants were locked into the sixth spot in the seven-team NFC playoff field heading into the regular-season finale and awaited either the 49ers or Vikings as their opponent in the first round.
The Giants will now make a return trip to Minneapolis this winter to play the Vikings, who clinched their first NFC North title since 2017. They have met three times in the postseason with the Giants winning in the 1993 Wild Card Round and, of course, the 41-point shutout in the 2000 NFC Championship Game. They met just two weeks ago at U.S. Bank Stadium, where Greg Joseph made a 61-yard field goal as time expired to beat the Giants 27-24.
