New York Giants announce additions to 2025 staff

The New York Giants announced today the hiring of six coaches to Brian Daboll's staff for the 2025 season.

Marquand Manuel is the new secondary coach/defensive pass game coordinator; Jeff Burris will coach cornerbacks; Chad Hall will serve as the assistant quarterbacks coach; Troy Brown will be an offensive assistant as part of the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship; and Steven Ferentz and Grant Morgan have been hired as defensive assistants.

The Giants also added three new members to the strength and conditioning/performance department under Aaron Wellman, the executive director of player performance. Dr. Matthew Frakes will be the director of performance nutrition, and Chris Allen and Mark Naylor have been brought on as assistant strength and conditioning coaches.

In addition, Drew Wilson has been promoted to director of strength and conditioning.

Manuel: Spent the past four seasons as the Jets' defensive backs/safeties coach…Has been in the NFL for two decades as a player and coach, earning trips to the Super Bowl as both…Prior to joining the Jets, Manuel served as the defensive backs coach with Philadelphia (2020) and four seasons in Atlanta, first as the secondary coach/senior defensive assistant (2015-16) before being promoted to defensive coordinator (2017-18). In his first season as coordinator (2017), the defense ranked in the top 10 in scoring defense (eighth), total defense (ninth), rushing defense (ninth) and red zone defense (fifth)…First NFL position came in Seattle as a special teams assistant (2012), before serving as defensive assistant (2013) and assistant secondary coach (2014). In his three seasons with the Seahawks, the team advanced to two Super Bowls, earning a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII, while the defense allowed the fewest passing yards per game in 2014…A sixth-round pick in the 2002 NFL Draft out of Florida, Manuel played with six teams in eight seasons – Cincinnati, Seattle, Green Bay, Carolina, Denver, and Detroit – and appeared in 116 games with 58 starts at safety. He also started in Super Bowl XL with the Seahawks.

Brown: Spent last season in a new role with the Patriots as a skill development - kick/punt returners coach…Originally joined the Patriots coaching staff in as part of the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship in 2019 and then worked with the running backs in 2020 and wide receivers in 2021 while also working with the returners. In 2020, Gunner Olszewski was named First-Team All-Pro as a punt returner and led the NFL with 17.3 yards per return. In 2022, the punt return unit ranked first in the NFL for punt return yards and third in total return yards…Brown spent his entire 15-season career as a wide receiver with the New England Patriots after being drafted by the team in the eighth round (198th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft out of Marshall…Brown is a three-time Super Bowl champion (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX), a five-time co-captain, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2001 and was given the Ron Burton Community Service Award in 2004. He is New England's all-time leading punt returner with 252 career returns and 2,625 punt return yards, ranks third all-time in receptions with 557 and ranks third all-time in all-purpose yardage with 11,069 total yards. Brown was inducted to the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2012.

Burris: Served as co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach for Louisiana Tech last season…A first-round selection in the 1994 NFL Draft and former All-American safety at Notre Dame, Burris returned to Louisiana Tech after a three-year stint as cornerbacks coach at Louisiana-Lafayette… During his first stint with Louisiana Tech, Burris coached defensive backs L'Jarius Sneed and Amik Robertson, who were selected with back-to-back picks in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively…Spent the 2017 season on the Northern Iowa football staff coaching the cornerbacks for the Panthers…In 2016, returned to Notre Dame as a senior defensive analyst after three years as the assistant defensive backs coach with the Miami Dolphins (2013-15).

Ferentz: Most recently coached outside linebackers at University of South Dakota following three seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he was an assistant linebackers coach…Played tight end and offensive line for the University of Iowa from 2012-16…Youngest child of Mary and Kirk Ferentz, the head football coach at Iowa…His brother, James, is the Giants' assistant offensive line coach.

Hall: Finished his second season as wide receivers coach for the Jaguars and his sixth season as a wide receivers coach in the NFL…Spent six seasons on the Buffalo Bills staff (2017-22), where he overlapped with Daboll as offensive coordinator and Joe Schoen as assistant general manager at the time….Hall was in charge of the wide receiver room for four years after being promoted from offensive assistant in 2019… In 2021, helped Stefon Diggs be selected to his second consecutive Pro Bowl and become the first Bill with 100+ receptions in consecutive seasons. Diggs set an NFL record for receptions in a player's first two seasons with a team (230). Under Hall, Gabriel Davis also set an NFL playoff record by catching four touchdowns…Oversaw a receivers room in 2020 that took the Buffalo offense to new heights, helping both Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley earn All-Pro honors. Diggs set franchise records and led the NFL with 127 receptions and 1,535 receiving yards on the season…Played wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles (2010-12), San Francisco 49ers (2012-13) and Kansas City Chiefs (2013)… In college, Hall played running back at the United States Air Force Academy for three years. He was the only player in the country to lead his team in rushing and receiving during his senior year…Named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2007…From 2008-2009, Hall served in the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant. He was based in Hill Air Force Base in Utah as a maintenance officer, assigned to the 388th Maintenance Group.

Morgan: Former Arkansas All-American Grant Morgan comes off his first season as an assistant linebackers coach at Illinois in 2024…Helped the Illini to a 10-3 record, tying the program's single-season mark for most victories…Entered the coaching profession after finishing his playing career at Arkansas in 2021 and spending the 2022 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dr. Frakes: Joined LSU as assistant athletic director of sports nutrition in December of 2021…Led the LSU sports nutrition team, overseeing the strategic nutrition direction for all student-athletes on campus…Served as the director of football nutrition and had oversight for LSU's 20 other sports…Spent the 2021 season as the director of sports nutrition at Notre Dame…Finished his PhD in nutrition and hospitality management from the University of Mississippi. His research focused on the impact of nutrition and dietary intake on the recovery of sports-related concussions in student-athletes.

Allen: Rejoined the University of Arizona strength and conditioning staff in June of 2023 as an assistant director of performance enhancement…Returned to Tucson after two years at his alma mater, West Virginia, where he assisted with the design, implementation and conducting of strength and conditioning programs for football student-athletes…Prior to West Virginia, Allen spent a year at Indiana after working at Kansas State for two years. He worked with the football team at both institutions. In his six previous years at Arizona (2012-2018), Allen oversaw 17 programs' strength and conditioning and supervised a staff of nine…Worked at Michigan for three years after beginning his career at West Virginia in 2003. He was a sprinter on the Mountaineers' track team from 1996-2000.

Naylor: Spent four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals as an assistant strength and conditioning coach after joining the team in 2020…Spent the previous two seasons (2018-19) as the director of football performance at Eastern Kentucky University following seven seasons as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Michigan…Got his start in the NFL as a training camp assistant with Tampa Bay's strength and conditioning staff in 2001 before working as a strength and conditioning assistant with Baltimore (2006-07).

Wilson: Joined the Giants in 2021. He served his first three seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach before becoming the assistant director of strength and conditioning in 2024. Wilson came to East Rutherford after a four-year stint as the director of football strength and conditioning at the University of Colorado. Prior to working for the Buffaloes, he spent five years (2011-15) as the director of strength and conditioning at the University of Maryland. He also worked for five years (2006-10) at the University of Connecticut as the assistant strength and conditioning coach. He previously was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Kansas from January 2005 to May 2006. Prior to his stint with the Jayhawks, Wilson spent five months at Florida State University assisting with football, baseball and the track and field programs.
