Malik Nabers named finalist for AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

MALIK-NABERS-FINALIST

Malik Nabers added to his list of accolades today when he was announced as one of five finalists for Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The winner will be revealed at "NFL Honors" on Thursday, Feb. 6, from Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. It has the potential to be a big night for the Giants as the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will also be unveiled. Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning is one of 15 finalists in the Modern-Era Player category.

The AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year has been bestowed since 1957. Through 2013, no Giants player had ever won it.

Now the team has a chance to account for three in the last decade. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. took home the award in 2014, followed by running back Saquon Barkley four years later. Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor is the only other Giant to win Rookie of the Year, doing so on the defensive side in 1981.

Nabers was recently named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team along with running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. They became the first pair of Giants classmates to make it in the same year since Barkley and guard Will Hernandez in 2018.

At 21 years old, Nabers broke the Giants' single-season receptions record with 109, two more than Steve Smith's former mark, set in 2009.

Nabers' 109 catches are the most by a rookie wide receiver in NFL history, topping the 105 receptions the Rams' Puka Nacua tallied in 2023. That is the second-highest total among all rookies, trailing only Las Vegas tight end Brock Bowers, who finished with 112 this season.

Nabers finished with 18 more catches than the previous Giants rookie record of 91, shared by Beckham and Barkley.

Nabers had at least five receptions in 14 of the 15 games in which he played, the most games with five or more catches by a rookie in NFL history, surpassing the former standard of 12, set by New England's Terry Glenn in 1996 and tied by Arizona's Anquan Boldin in 2003.

Nabers finished with 1,204 receiving yards, the ninth-highest total in Giants history and the second most by a Giants rookie, behind only Beckham's 1,305 yards in 2014. Nabers and Beckham are the only rookies in Giants history with 1,000+ receiving yards.

Nabers' seven touchdown receptions tied him with Bobby Johnson (1984) for the fourth-highest total by a Giants rookie.
