"It's that time of year again. "Make the Case" is back on Giants.com. In the coming weeks, this series will look at projections provided by two draft experts and then ask you, the fans, to weigh in on which player you would like the Giants to select in the first round. Which position do you think the Giants need to upgrade the most? "Make the Case" will pin top prospect against eachother despite their position. Big Blue holds the ninth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, which runs from April 30 to May 2 in Chicago. Last year the Giants hit a homerun when they selected Odell Beckham Jr. Will they do it again? In their latest mock drafts, ESPN's Todd McShay has the Giants selecting offensive lineman Brandon Scherff of Iowa, while FOX Sports' Peter Schrager makes the case for Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper. |

I considered Oregon's Arik Armstead here because the Giants need a pass-rusher, especially if they can't work out a way to keep Jason Pierre-Paul. I think Armstead is an underrated prospect with an outstanding combination of size, agility and power, but he's a former basketball player who isn't known for being the toughest dude on the field, so I don't know that he'd be the right fit for a Tom Coughlin-coached team. Instead, I'll give them the ultimate tough guy in Scherff, who could either take over at right tackle for Justin Pugh or provide a major upgrade at left guard (with second-year lineman Weston Richburg likely to bump inside to center, his natural position). I've had the Giants taking a wide receiver since the first mock draft I did in January. General Manager Jerry Reese was asked about the position at the Combine…and said the following: 'If Victor (Cruz) is back, and Odell (Beckham Jr.) and Rueben (Randle), that's a pretty good core. And there are some other guys, (Preston) Parker, (Corey) Washington, some younger guys. But if there's a good receiver, guys, we'll draft him.' Cooper is the most polished wideout in this draft. And though there are definitely pass rush and offensive line needs, and absolutely defensive backfield needs, an Amari Cooper doesn't come along too often. The Giants don't plan on drafting in the top 10 too often. I simply don't see an offensive lineman worth taking over Cooper. It's a 'best player available' pick, and Cooper is pretty darn good. The Alabama superstar is a 6-1, 210-pound, precise route runner with 4.42 speed. He did it at the college level and he'll do it at the pro level. He and Beckham are a tremendous 1-2.
