EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants today added a tight end who is a local product and released three players from their roster.
They signed tight end Garrett Dickerson from Northwestern University and Bergen Catholic High School, which is just 13 miles from MetLife Stadium.
The Giants waived wide receiver Keeon Johnson and defensive backs Jeremiah McKinnon and Mike Jones.
Dickerson, 6-3 and 248 pounds, played in 49 games at Northwestern and caught 87 passes for 887 yards and nine touchdowns. As a senior in 2017, he was selected honorable mention All-Big Ten after recording career highs in receptions (37) and yards (401). He scored four touchdowns, one less than the career best he set in 2016.
At Bergen Catholic, Dickerson set school tight end records with 52 catches, 776 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Johnson was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Giants on May 11, 2017. He suffered a broken foot during training camp and was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 19.
McKinnon was signed to the Giants' practice squad on Nov. 28, 2017, and to a reserve/futures contract on Jan. 1 of this year. He has also been with Dallas, Tampa Bay and Washington, but has never played in a regular-season game.
Jones was a rookie from agent from Temple who was signed on May 8.
