EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants today added a fifth member to their kicking game when they signed first-year punter Taylor Symmank.
A 6-2, 195-pounder, Symmank has never kicked in an NFL regular-season game. He was with the Minnesota Vikings from Jan. 3-Sept. 2, 2017 and averaged 42.9 yards – gross and net – on nine punts in the preseason. Symmank had a long kick of 60 yards and placed five balls inside the 20-yard line. He participated in the Vikings rookie minicamp in 2016.
Symmank finished his career at Texas Tech as the career record-holder in gross punting average (43.6 yards). As a senior in 2015, he punted 33 times and averaged 46.0 yards, the second-best single-season mark in school history.
In his junior season, Symmank earned All-Big 12 honorable mention with a 42.6 gross punting average, 17 punts downed inside the 20-yard line and eight 50-plus yard punts on 54 kicks.
The McKinney, Texas native began his career at Southern Arkansas University.
Symmank joins three-year veteran Riley Dixon as current Giants punters. Dixon was obtained in a trade with Denver on April 23. The team also has two kickers in incumbent Aldrick Rosas and Marshall Koehn, and veteran long snapper Zak DeOssie.
