East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Jason Miller of Waverly High School (Waverly, NY) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 9 of the 2024 season. The Wolverines improved to 7-1 with an impressive 48-0 victory over division opponent Lansing (5-3). Waverly defeated Tioga Central 50-6 the previous week in a matchup of 2023 State Championship teams. In the past four games, Waverly has scored 208 points, while allowing just 6 points on defense.

The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local high school football programs. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes' lives. Each week during the high school football season, the Giants selected one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community.

In recognition of Coach Miller's selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check will be granted to the school's football program from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade. He will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll, and will be honored at a dinner following the season, as well as a 2025 pre-season home game.

Coach Miller became head coach at Waverly in 2001, after serving as an assistant coach and the JV coach since 1992. Miller, a 1986 Waverly alum, played quarterback for the Wolverines and went on to play football at Juniata College. The football team has flourished under Miller's leadership, winning 8 division championships, and 5 section titles, and only experiencing two losing seasons in the last 19 years. The team won the school's first-ever state championship last season, winning the Section IV Class C championship game 46-26 over Fonda-Fultonville at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, to finish the season 13-1. For his team's accomplishments, Miller was recognized as the 2023 New York State Class C Coach of the Year. Miller also serves as a social studies teacher at the school.
