East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants have selected Coach Frank Rogers of Troy High School in Troy, NY as the High School Flag Football Coach of the Week for Week 2 of the 2025 season.
New this season, the High School Flag Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local high school flag football programs. Each week during the high school girls flag football season, the Giants will select one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community.
In recognition of Coach Rogers' selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check from The Giants Foundation will be given to Troy High School's flag football program. Rogers will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll and will be honored at a recognition ceremony after the season and at a 2025 Giants preseason home game.
In 2022, Troy High School was the first school in Section 2 to offer girls flag football. This creation was spearheaded by Rogers, alongside Athletic Director Paul Reinisch and countless others. In Coach Rogers' first year, he had forty-two girls sign up with sixty-five percent of those girls never having played a sport in their high school career. Their commitment to the game was on full display when Coach Rogers and the team would travel up to 3 hours to compete against other teams in the state. After demonstrating what the sport could look like for high schools in their area, Troy led the way for Section 2 to make girls flag football a varsity sport for high school student-athletes starting in the spring of 2024. In the Section's inaugural season there were 12 teams that competed, and they are now up to 16 teams in 2025. Under Coach Rogers's leadership, the Troy Flying Horses are off to a 3-0 start to the 2025 season after beating Colonie High School on Tuesday night with a 13-6 victory. Over their last three games, they have held their opponents to 10 points or less.
Coach Rogers not only serves as the coordinator for Section 2, but also represents the Section at the state level on the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Flag Football Committee. Coach Rogers has been a member of the flag football community for over 30 years as a coach, official, league operator and overall advocate to provide girls with an opportunity to play the game of football. Rogers is also a co-founder of the "Kidz 1st", a non-profit organization that provides resources and after-school programing to students in the Capital District area.
"We were excited to hear that Frank was chosen as the Coach of the Week Award winner. Frank has brought tremendous passion and commitment to Troy and Flag Football. Flag Football has exploded in Section 2 over the past two years and I believe that Frank was a key contributor to that. We are off to a great start as a team in 2025 and Frank is certainly deserving of this recognition " said Paul Reinisch, Director of Physical Education, Athletics, Health and Safety at Troy High School.
