The Giants Foundation and Gatorade to contribute $2,000 to the football program.
East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Rob Gogerty of Cedar Grove High School (Cedar Grove, NJ) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 7 of the 2024 season. The Panthers impressive start to the season continued last Thursday night as they defeated Glen Ridge 49-28 at home to improve to 7-0 on the season. The powerful offense is averaging over 41 points per game, while their stingy defense is holding teams to under 13 points per game so far this year.
The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local high school football programs. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes' lives. Each week during the high school football season, the Giants selected one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community.
In recognition of Coach Gogerty's selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check will be granted to the school's football program from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade. He will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll, and will be honored at a dinner following the season, as well as a 2025 pre-season home game.
Rob Gogerty has served as the head football coach at Cedar Grove High School since 2016, where he has also served as the athletic director since 2014. Gogerty is also an alum of the school, where he was a three-sport athlete in football, baseball and basketball. He went on to play Division I basketball in college at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He also previously served as a basketball and baseball coach at Cedar Grove High School. Gogerty helped lead the Cedar Grove Panthers to a 12-1 season in 2021, ending with a 13-12 win over Park Ridge at MetLife Stadium to win the North 1 Regional Championship.
"I am humbled and honored to receive this award on behalf of all of the coaches and student-athletes that make this Panthers football team so special," said Gogerty. "We are fortunate to have an experienced and dedicated coaching staff of many former alumni, as well as young men that love to uphold the great tradition of our football program at Cedar Grove!"
