The New York Giants signed cornerback Amani Oruwariye.
Originally a fifth-round pick (No. 146 overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Lions, Oruwariye spent his first four seasons in Detroit. The 27-year-old has played 53 games with 36 starts and has registered 173 tackles (143 solo), nine interceptions, 24 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and four tackles for loss.
Oruwariye's best season came in 2021 when he started all 14 games he played in. The 6-foot-2, 202-pound corner recorded six interceptions that year, the third-most in the NFL, to go with his career-best 11 pass breakups.
After redshirting his freshman year, Oruwariye went on to play four seasons at Penn State. He finished his collegiate career with 106 tackles (72 solo), eight interceptions, 20 pass breakups, one forced fumble and one defensive touchdown. He was named Second-Team All-Big Ten as a in 2017 after posting four interceptions and seven passes defensed. The following year, Oruwariye had three interceptions and 11 pass breakups on his way to being named First-Team All-Big Ten. He was also a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back.
