Dennis Hickey, a former Miami Dolphins general manager, is in his third season as the Giants' assistant director of player personnel.
Prior to joining the Giants, Hickey spent five years working for the Buffalo Bills. His tenure mirrored Giants general manager Joe Schoen's time with the team. Hickey was the Bills' senior college scout in 2017-18 before being promoted to senior national scout in his third year with the team. Schoen and Hickey first worked together in 2014-15, when Hickey was the Dolphins' general manager and Schoen was the team's director of player personnel.
During Hickey's term in Buffalo, the Bills drafted numerous players who helped them earn four postseason berths in five seasons, including the AFC East titles in his final two seasons. That group included quarterback Josh Allen, linebacker Tremaine Edwards, running back Devin Singletary, wide receiver Gabe Davis, tight end Dawson Knox, defensive tackle Ed Oliver, and cornerback TreDavious White and Taron Johnson.
In Miami, Hickey was responsible for the Dolphins' football operations and administration, including directing the college and pro personnel departments. He directed all scouting efforts involving the college draft, free agency, the Canadian Football League, and personnel of the other 31 NFL teams.
During Super Bowl week in 2015, Hickey was one of the recipients of the inaugural Steinberg-DeNicola Awards for Humanitarian Service. The awards recognize an owner, executive, coach, and a player who support their community through service and charitable actions. Hickey regularly assisted with Special Olympics programs throughout the Miami-Dade County area as part of his Hickey's Heroes Foundation.
Hickey joined the Dolphins after spending 18 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including three seasons (2011-13) as the team's director of player personnel. From 2004-10, he was the team's director of college scouting.
Hickey was the Buccaneers' pro personnel assistant in 1996-97. He then spent six seasons as a college scout with the team. Hickey was a member of the Buccaneers' first Super Bowl championship team in 2002, a 48-21 victory against Oakland in Super Bowl XXXVII.
In 1994-95, Hickey was the defensive backs coach for Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas.
Hickey began his collegiate career as a safety at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas, where he played on a junior college national championship team and was a captain and an academic All-American. He then transferred to the University of Tulsa, where he was a three-year starter at safety. Hickey graduated from Tulsa with a degree in history/education and later earned a master's degree in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University.
Hickey and his wife, Stephanie, have one daughter, Breanna, and one son, Barrett.
