5 players to watch vs. Cardinals
Keep an eye on these five players as the Giants host the Cardinals on Sunday

WR Rueben RandleAir or ground, the Giants couldn't get much going offensively against the Lions, recording just 197 total yards and 12 first downs that weren't from penalties. The day after the game, wide receiver and newly-elected co-captain Victor Cruz (two catches for 24 yards) said that he and Randle (two catches for one yard) have to get more involved earlier in the game. "I think in order for us to be successful, there needs to be an increased number of targets in my direction and other playmakers' directions, just like Rueben Randle as well, in my opinion," Cruz said. "That all comes with the continuity. That comes with getting the running game going. That comes with building what we want to build as the game continues. It is just a matter of once we find that rhythm early on, we can get into passing the ball and opening up the plays a little bit."

DE Damontre MooreCoach Tom Coughlin said this week that his second-year defensive end should have played more reps on Monday in Detroit, but it wasn't an ideal night for any of the three phases of the game. After the game, fellow defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul texted Moore to keep his chin up while pointing out areas of improvement moving forward. "We just addressed the situation at hand, which was me overshooting it and being a little too eager instead of playing with a firm base," Moore said of the conversation. "Not being so excited and just kind of trusting my technique."

DT Johnathan HankinsThe second-year defensive tackle has quietly moved into a starting role at defensive tackle. While the season opener wasn't the defense's best performance, the team hung its hat on stopping the run as the Lions averaged just two yards per carry on 30 attempts. Hankins played a big part in that and finished fourth on the team with five tackles (four solo), the most of any defensive lineman. "I've seen improvement," Coughlin said of Hankins in Giants.com's exclusive weekly interview with the head coach. "He's done a good job. He was an anchor in there.">> COACH COUGHLIN DISCUSSES MAKING CORRECTIONS

P Steve WeatherfordAfter not practicing for the majority of the week due to an ankle injury suffered in the season opener, Weatherford is listed as "questionable" heading into Sunday's game against the Cardinals. After practicing in a limited capacity on Friday, the optimistic punter is expected to play on Sunday. But if he can't, kicker Josh Brown is his backup while quarterback Ryan Nassib would slide to Weatherford's holding duties. Meanwhile, the Giants also worked out a handful of punters on Friday as a contingency plan. >> VIEW GIANTS-CARDINALS INJURY REPORT

TE Larry DonnellIf there was one bright spot on Monday night, it was Larry Donnell, the second-year undrafted tight end who worked his way into a starting role this year. Against the Lions, Donnell led the Giants in targets (eight), receptions (five), yards (56) and had the lone touchdown -- a one-yard fade in the end zone -- to become the 33rd different receiver to catch a regular-season touchdown from Eli Manning.
