The player selected by the Giants between RB David Wilson and CB Jayron Hosley - second-round choice Rueben Randle, the wide receiver from LSU - made an outstanding catch down the right sideline on a pass thrown by Ryan Perrilloux- a former LSU quarterback.

"I was very impressed by Randle out on the field this morning," Coach Tom Coughlin said.

Randle was issued the No. 82 jersey previously worn by Mario Manningham, who joined the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent this offseason. Manningham's departure has created an opportunity for several receivers, including Randle.

"You have to take full advantage of it," Randle said. "They brought me up for a reason. It's my job to go out there and do what they brought me in to do, which is make plays."

Randle caught 97 passes in three seasons at LSU, including 53 last year. The day he was drafted, Marc Ross, the Giants director of college scouting, called him "an NFL-ready receiver."

"They are expecting big things from me," Randle said. "I have to live up to it. It's a big thing hearing that from a coach. You have to put in all of the hard work and continue to get better."
