Running back David Wilson, the Giants' first-round draft choice from Virginia Tech, had an impressive debut. He led the team with 43 rushing yards on seven carries, including a 26-yarder, and had a 48-yard runback among his two kickoff returns.
"Wilson did some things," Coughlin said. "We hoped we would have some other opportunities out there where he really could have helped us to be in position to win the game. That's what we were trying to do quite frankly, was get him the ball."
"Overall, I definitely had more positives than negatives," Wilson said. "I'll watch a lot of film and hopefully show a lot of improvement as I play more games.
"When there was a crease there, I felt I took advantage of it when I had the ball. Even on some of the good runs, I wish I had the ball back and even done better. It's beginning of training camp. I'll take in everything I learn and try to get better each week."
*Second-round draft choice Rueben Randle had two catches – a 21-yarder and a six-yard touchdown from Ryan Perrilloux.
"I thought Rueben Randle played well and made some nice plays for a young guy," Coughlin said.
"The touchdown felt good," Randle said. "The butterflies were gone after that. To get the first one out of the way, now I can play much faster."
*Wide receiver Isaiah Stanback made the play of the night, reaching up with only his right hand to snatch a five-yard touchdown pass from David Carr with cornerback Kevin Rutland draped all over him.
"It was a fade route," Stanback said. "It was hard to see the ball coming out of the quarterback's hand. I was able to pick up the ball and come down with the play."
So why use only one hand?
"He (Rutland) was holding me," Stanback said. "He had my left arm so I grabbed it with my right and made sure I got my feet in. You have to make it happen. The coaches don't want to hear he was holding you when you come to the sideline. You just try to do the best you can."
"When we broke the huddle he said, 'Hey, D.C.,' and he nodded at me," Carr said. "It was one-on-one over there and he made a fantastic play."
*Defensive tackle Dwayne Hendricks had two of the Giants' six sacks. The others were credited to Adrian Tracy, Craig Marshall, Matt Broha and Hosley.
*Second-year linebacker Spencer Paysinger led the Giants with six tackles (five solo).
*Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul each recovered a fumble. Linval Joseph and Corey Webster each forced one.
*Former Giant Aaron Ross started at left cornerback for the Jaguars and had two tackles. He was also penalized for grabbing Eli Manning's facemask.
*The Giants' game captains were David Baas, Linval Joseph and Lawrence Tynes.
*Fourteen Giants did not suit up for the game because of injuries: wide receivers Domenik Hixon (hamstring) and David Douglas (quad), linebackers Michael Boley (hamstring), Jacquian Williams (hip) and Jake Muasau (hamstring), cornerback Terrell Thomas (knee), tackle Will Beatty (back), running back Da'Rel Scott (thigh), defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (knee) and defensive end Justin Trattou (ankle), in addition to the four players on the physically unable to perform list: wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (foot), defensive tackle Chris Canty (knee), tight end Travis Beckum (knee) and linebacker Clint Sintim (knee).
