🏈 Giants.com hands out game balls for preseason Week 1

The Giants opened up the 2024 preseason with a victory at home over the Detroit Lions.

It was an impressive performance by the Giants following two joint practices with the Lions earlier in the week.

Many of the team's starters did not see the field in the opening preseason game, although several got on the field for a handful of snaps.

Here are Giants.com's top performers from Thursday's win.

šŸˆ RB ERIC GRAY

The second-year running back had an explosive first half as he carried the ball just four times but for 52 yards (13.0 avg.) and two touchdowns. The play of the day came when Gray juked out a Lions defender and took it all the way to the end zone for an impressive 48-yard touchdown.

Gray also added four receptions (on four targets) for an additional 46 yards.

šŸˆ RB DANTE 'TURBO' MILLER

In his first ever NFL game, "Turbo" Miller lived up to his name. The 25-year-old carried the ball 12 times for 63 yards, good for 5.3 yards per carry. Miller also caught two passes for seven yards.

šŸˆ ILB DYONTAE JOHNSON

Johnson got into the action early in the first quarter as he chased down Lions quarterback Nate Sudfeld for a sack. The 23-year-old added a second tackle for loss later in the half and finished with four total tackles (two solo).

šŸˆ OLB BOOGIE BASHAM

Basham had a strong night, finishing the game with four tackles (two solo), a sack, and two passes defensed.

šŸˆ DL ELIJAH CHATMAN

The undrafted rookie displayed great hustle on a first half sack. Chatman also registered three tackles (one solo).

šŸˆ CB DRU PHILLIPS

The rookie cornerback picked up right where he left off during the joint practices as he burst through the line of scrimmage to tackle Lions running back Jermar Jefferson behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of two.

šŸˆ OLB BENTON WHITLEY

Whitley was all over the field Thursday, picking up two tackles (one solo), one sack, and two quarterback hits.
